but have had a long hard week at work and actually fell asleep in the first half ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ I have never done that before Good old Dave livened it up in the second half
The first half was so bad that half way through I popped out and went to B and Q, brought some Dulux, painted the seat in front of me and watched that dry instead. Thankfully, "Dave's" introduction changed things and we looked far more threatening. All about the result today - 3 points mattered more than the entertainment value.
Hmmm ....... if we'd have had 80% of the possession, 50 shots on target, 30 corners and played like Barcelona mixed with Real Madrid on their best form but lost 0-1 I would have been less happy than I am now. I go to gigs to be entertained - I go to Carrow Road to see City win. If I can be entertained at the same time then that would be perfect but not as essential as a three point haul.
Great, well I guess you have many 50 quids to spare. It's a different world these days I guess. Gigs to be entertained indeed, I feel like I've been mullered.
It certainly wasn't entertaining to watch and several fans around me were nearly falling asleep. After the introduction of Mbokani, Howson started playing in a more forward role and so was on hand to score!! I thought Wisdom acquitted himself well and seemed content to concentrate on his defensive duties rather than rampaging forward at every opportunity!!
No, it wasn't pretty, but the 3 points certainly are! AN was limited by the loss of both Jarvis and Tettey, but Howson stepped up big-time and was my MotM. As AN said after the match, it's not the way he wants to play, but at least it was effective. Wes wasn't at his best but I agree that Mbokani changed the game when he came on. I suspect we'll see something similar against Chelsea and Arsenal and perhaps that's a good thing.
Would it be fair to say that Mbokani has been at his best coming off the bench on 30 minutes? He was the only half decent player in a couple of the matches where he started, but I feel the team plays better with Jerome up front earlier in the match and he's better coming on to terrify tired defenders. Jerome's finishing is desperate though. He has everything except composure in front of the net - that delicious Brady ball was probably one of the worst misses we've seen although for some reason headers aren't usually considered horror misses.
Interesting article by Gary Gowers on the tactics and the match in general. http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...h-the-onus-on-no-mistakes-and-not-conceding/?
It's funny, but a would only rate a glancing header like that as a half-chance, really. Excellent free-kick by Brady though, who also had a cracking match. His 3 goals (I count the wrongly disallowed one) in 13 appearances, many of which were incomplete or as a sub isn't bad for the PL though.
It's not about the stats though, Rick. I have no idea what his shots on target rate or converstion rate is. All I know is what I see, and he misses too many decent chances to be classed as anything other than a mediocre centre-forward at best at this level, no matter what his work rate is.
Holt scored 14 goals under Lambert starting virtually every game with a second striker as well. Jerome's goals can be compared with that according to the number of matches played as a sole striker, but so far he has 3 times as many as either RvW or Elmander scored all season, and half as many as Hooper scored all season. With Mbokani on board, Jerome will get less playing time than any of those. Scoring goals is not easy in the PL, especially with AN's style of play. http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/...ing_better_with_age_at_norwich_city_1_4300967
Keeping tighter at the back is the platform and a lesson from the first ten games to ponder going forward. We are above Chelski!
It's interesting what AN has said about Mbokani and Jerome: “It was unfortunate we’ve not had him (Mbokani) available for the last two weeks through illness although to be honest he wouldn’t have played at Manchester City. I felt that game was more suited to Cameron (Jerome) so he wouldn’t have played regardless, but he can be a big player for us this season. He gets himself free at the back post and Jonny is in the danger area to react and put it in.” Different horses for different courses, basically.
