I dont believe that newcastle united were ever in any serious danger of going ino admin Ashley is far too much of an astute business man to buy anything without taking the neccesary steps his initial employment of chris mort proves this. what his motives in buying the club were i have no idea but certainly the intention of making newcastle a top flight club was not part of the plan his treatment of kevin keegan shows this even though my personal opinion is that rehiring keegan was always likely to back fire even if i believed that ashley has loaned this club money from his own pocket which I dont there are recognised business systems in place to service multi million pound loans to multi million pound buinesses check out the glazers at man united or lerner at aston villa so some other agenda is on ashleys mind at times with some of the decisions he has made i find it difficult to believe it is not a deliberate attempt to destroy nufc but then logic prevails and i think that the only reasonable explanation is that ahleys ambitions are limited to taking as much from the club as possible and spending the miniimum required to keep 50000 bums on seats hence the current transfer system sell what you can replacing them with lower cost players no direspect to any of the french players i believe the scouting team have done a good job but the frenc lligue is not the bundesliga serie a or la ligua i dont believe that we will ever have success under this regime if any of the youngsters we have bought turn out to be a gem they will be like andy carroll gone to the highest bidder

I don't think we'll ever know truly why he bought the club. Maybe it was a play thing, or just an elaborate marketing scheme for Sports Direct (which has worked) but i'll be honest and say, i couldn't care less! The club is in a decent financial position (as far as i know) and seeing as we're currently just at the beginning of his "Five Year Plan" i'm pretty happy with the signings/ direction of the club!

Think of it this way, we could have Bernie Ecclestone...

The worlds longest sentence is in there somewhere, I've no idea what he's getting at. This is why you pay attention at school kids, basic use of English and people can have a clue what you're trying to say.

I'd hardly say "sell what you can" is the current model, considering only 2 players have been sold in the last 12 months. Naturally more players have been sold than bought in the last couple years, but that's the case with every club that experiences relegation -- just look at the dismantling going on at Birmingham and Blackpool. Be grateful the club got promoted back up so quickly, and be grateful there's enough quality in the side to already be midtable stable.

I'll ask you what I ask everyone who posts similar threads, who would you like (or expect) the club to be buying right now?

Finally understood it and please just shut up. I'm fed up with people moaning about us selling our best players. We've sold 2 alright. 2!! Not a whole ****ing squad. Admittedly Carroll hasn't been completely replace but we got 35m for him. Try and find another club who would've turned that offer down had they been in or situation. And also Nolan. We got good money for him and replaced him withsomeone younger and more talented (hasn't proved he's better than Nolan yet but he a is more talented footballer)

Why is it so hard to paragraph and space out your points? It makes them so much easier to read.

    Because I'm a boring bastard:

I don't believe that Newcastle United were ever in any serious danger of going in to admin.

Ashley is far too much of an astute business man to buy anything without taking the neccesary steps, his initial employment of Chris Mort proves this. What his motives in buying the club were I have no idea, but certainly the intention of making Newcastle a top flight club was not part of the plan.

His treatment of Kevin Keegan shows this even though my personal opinion is that re-hiring Keegan was always likely to back fire. Even if I believed that Ashley has loaned this club money from his own pocket, which I don't, there are recognised business systems in place to service multi-million pound loans to multi million pound buinesses. Check out the Glazers at Man united or Lerner at Aston Villa.

So some other agenda is on Ashley's mind. At times, with some of the decisions he has made, I find it difficult to believe it is not a deliberate attempt to destroy NUFC.

However, logic prevails and I think that the only reasonable explanation is that Ashley's ambitions are limited to taking as much from the club as possible, and spending the minimum required to keep 50000 bums on seats.

The current transfer system 'sell what you can replacing them with lower cost players' proves this, though no direspect to any of the french players. I believe the scouting team have done a good job but the french league is not the German league, Italian league or Spanish League.

I don't believe that we will ever have success under this regime. If any of the youngsters we have bought turn out to be a gem, they will be like Andy Carroll, going to the highest bidder.

I think you can now reply off that.

I am slightly pissed of with the transfer dealings TBH.
This 35m that is constantly banded about is all well and good but surely we would of had a transfer budget before the 'Judas' was sold?
I don't want 'us' to waste money as we have in previous regimes but I would like a big name signing to Boost the club.

Congratultions for breaking the world record for the longest ever sentance <ok>

I would like to point out though that of course there was never any chance of going into admin before Ashley bought the club. The £90million debt Newcastle had was mainly from the redevelopement of SJP into it's current 52,000 capacity and because of the nature of the loan (for ground developement) it was structured over the long term. This meant we could utilise the clubs financial clout from season tickets, merchandise etc etc (we were one of the top 20 clubs in the world for turnover) to keep up with the other clubs looking to strengthen their team each season in a bid to finish in one of the European spots.

The debt was never a problem until Ashley bought the club which meant by the terms of the loan that the club was required to repay the loan in full.

I'm going to quote from this rather than the OP for obvious reasons.

Can you explain where the mystery money came from then? The published figures which are legally binding etc seem to suggest the money came from MA

Yeah that worked really well, turned the richest club in the world into one of the most debt ridden, we should definitely look into that <ok>
