In the Championship, the mid-week matches kept threads going through the week. The scarcity of those in the PL is a contributing factor.
I really don't know why that got started on here, and I was even more amazed that it has been so popular!? People saying this site is dead. Get on that sh**y politics rubbish. Loads going one there for some reason.
When we're on a bad run as we are now or get hammered, I do tend to stay away for a while. Because reading the negative comments won't help my mood after a losing a game.
I moderate over there too, its quieter than it once was too. Hopefully there's not a connection there! Speaking of moderation, I've not seen our other mod lately either. Agree that attracting new members is difficult, the twitter account doesn't seem to have had much impact. I think we have a reasonable number of lurkers who read but don't post, and are likely to stop reading if there's nothing worth reading. Perhaps we could do with some fresh inputs to spur more on topic debates.
I have followed GC chat for some time. Threads used to attract hundreds of posts, now not much happens. Saying it is the politics thread is bollox, if you don't like politics you just don't go on there.
Only really came on here to read rbfs poems Now they r gone just seems the same old few trotting out the same old story
I completely agree It's nothing to do with the fact it's a thread about politics, that's a very healthy debate in my opinion that has had some superb discussion on it. It's more the fact that one half af the argument rarely seems to bother backing up their opinions with any real substance other than trotting out the usual rhetoric that they are supposed to believe, and then when challenged to substantiate what they've said they more often than not aren't able to, which does get somewhat frustrating and isn't conducive to good, healthy debate in my opinion.
Personally I like the variety of threads on here. I do find it tedious when people get angry and/or aggressive or personal especially on the OT threads but if we didn't have the OT stuff then the site traffic would reduce further. As with all threads we can all either post or not. I think that we currently have no real rivals in this league and so there is precious little to and fro with their supporters. Both us and the mob down the A140 are doing fairly poorly so there is little cross-border raiding going on. It feels like the team is somewhat stuck in a rut and we have few options to fix it - the defence is chronically weak but it seems that we do not have the personnel or a formation with our existing personnel to solve the problem so there can really be no debate on the board about it. Things will hot up as we near the transfer window as we all look to see who we will bring in. Any sort of decent result or run of results will help as I get the impression that after our reasonable start an awful lot of us on here (myself included) are feeling pretty down about how things are going - we have borne a lot of disappointments this season without many highs to compensate for them. I can think of Letting the lead go at West Ham late on Not beating Stoke after dominating the match Last gasp defeat last week Newcastle - enough said Palace - disallowed goal and defeat when we could and should have got something from the game Southampton performance Losing back to back against WBA and Leicester Cup loss on penalties to Everton Against this I can only think of hammering Sunderland and scabbing a draw against Liverpool as being any sort of high's this season whereas last year we had all the fun of the fair - a fast start, rivalry with Ipswich, a dip and then the Neil effect. A lot of excitement and a lot of positives whereas this season I feel we have often lost without so much as a whimper and that every time a few of our lads have a good game someone at the back drops a clanger and we just all sit there waiting for it to happen every single week. Still onward and upward. Hopefully we'll pick up a result on Saturday and I will start feeling a bit more positive again!
Sorry JK, but I don't hate democracy (don't like 'first past the post', but guess that won't change in my lifetime - if at all!!) and this particular thread has gone on too long.
Football forums tend to 'buzz' more when they win - so last season it was busy. This season started well but we are on a pretty dire run at the min. Our League 1 standard defence gets the blame for everything else so let's blame them for the forums popularity too. It's Whittaker's fault.
I think it was a mistake pissing off the Binmen contributors. While I would be the first to agree that JWM was a bit of a pee lock he did add a bit to the banter.
Really?? Can't say I've missed him in the slightest, that wasn't what I call "banter" if I'm being honest, but perhaps that's just me.
I must stop lurking and post more. People just need to stop bitching at each other all the time. We all have an affinity for the same club and that love for yellow and green should bring us all together. Personally I like the threads that are full of informed discussions about football, that doesnt mean we all have to agree with each other all the time, but personal insults as some peoples default the second they are challenged doesnt help and is putting people off posting.
Does that really happen though? Think you're overcooking it personally, you definitely are when you suggest that people are "bitching at each other al the time" as that's just not what I see at all.
