Yeah I'm pretty much the opposite, I'm a bit of cinephile and go to the cinema a couple of times a week.

Never underestimate the department stores (Upstairs at Boots in Prospect Centre, Debenhams plus WH Smiths) - i picked up rarities from The Damned, New Model Army, The Cramps & The Fall from their racks.

In my youth it was Good Vibrations & Cordocks in Hornsea and Redifusion Records in Beverley - plus the shop on Dog & Duck Lane that I can’t remember the name of…

I used to get mine from Soundtrek in Hornsea, I used to go in with a list that I'd got from Sounds or NME, and they'd order them in for me.

I havent read the previous 6 pages but I always went in Offbeat - it was one of the best shops in the country for limited edition releases. I managed to get a few that had a total run of 1000 copies that were changing hands for hundreds of pounds (Eeee, a lot of money back then).

On my way back from school, can't remember if it was 60/61 but I bought my first single; Why by Tony Newley. I didn't go in to buy this but it was a little local shop and it was the only song I'd heard of. Think my pocket money was burning a hole in my trousers. I was a bit worried about mentioning Newley until someone mentioned Rolf Harris.

in 76 they reissued all the beatles 45s and there was a b side i wanted. i walked into a record shop (maybe stardisc in hepworth's arcade) and on the counter was a display box with beatles singles in it. the one at the front was the one i was after, so i picked it up and paid for it. made me wonder what the people in the shop thought - kid goes into shop, picks up the first thing he sees, buys it, leaves.
