Of course, thats why me typing the above was to note I understand no one expects us to remain unbeaten.
Extends the unbeaten run until the end of the season, you knew the point being made. Although I can see the fans that thought AVB would win the title are eager to pick up on any mistake!
Who said that Villas-Boas was going to win the title? I genuinely didn't know why people kept mentioning us going unbeaten, as the original quote wasn't linked to. I'll be pretty happy if we manage to extend the run past the weekend, to be honest. Three tough league games coming up in a row and we need to win our Europa games around them, too.
little leg pulling. It may be a positive if the unbeaten run comes to an end, although if we had to choose, which london club could fans tolerate abuse from the most.
Brentford? I don't think that I know any Brentford fans. Out of the three available? None of them. They're all arseholes!
Our resident stats king has left the site but over the first 50 games Francis lost 10 games and apparently had a better points record then both Bill Nich/Arthur Rowe, although not much of a surprise as he was superb at first and had us 2nd/3rd at Christmas when Armstrong/Sheringham where leading the attack in his first full season.
And we all know Sherwood's record. Didn't quite manage the same win percentage at Villa though, especially this season.
You maybe missed the point of why it was mentioned, not to praise Francis, although I enjoyed his management, but to show short term optimism doesn't always lead to real success.
No, I was extending the point with another example. Sherwood did well in his short stint with us and hit time at Villa showed his shortcomings, especially after the transfer window. He took over established and fairly stable sides, worked on the flaws and got results. We got rid of him, but Villa didn't. He then dropped into unfamiliar territory and had to work with new players after losing important ones. How much of their summer dealings were down to him remains to be seen, but he couldn't handle the changes and hit some appalling form. Would he have done the same at WHL if he hadn't been shown the door? I didn't fancy his chances, to be honest.
Sherwood was never a contender for the spurs job, he wasn't a serious option for any fan, just someone that has proved to be correct in the way changes should be made at the club, such as promote youth and not always look at players outside without first promoting a youth player if they are capable of stepping up. The job at Villa is for him to reflect on, as he saved them from relegation, took them to a cup final and then pre season lost Delph/Benteke, while losing games by the odd goal this season. he may not be cut out for top level management and more suited to the assistant/youth setup, but he will discover that when he decides on his future in the game.
The players were apparently behind him, disappointed he moved on, especially Grealish. Sometimes results just go against the team, as the defeats were by a fine margin, rather then being outclassed, while the fixture list wasn't kind. Adebayor decided not to move, if he had signed that may have helped. Because of the fine margins (each defeat , aside from the Chelsea game, was by 1 goal) I can't say with confidence either way on Sherwood, but he may struggle to find work unless he has a mate ready to give him a chance, which I gather is possible in the lower leagues.
Usually means you need to clear your cache or something, doesn't it? Think it clears your passwords and stuff too so make sure you know them all
I don't think anyone realistically expected us to challenge for the title under AVB, especially after 11 games. The lack of football does crazy things to people's minds, back in July Chelsea fans probably thought they'd get top 4 this season
I really fear these 3 games and the scenario that come the third- Chelsea could be 3 points behind us and a win would put them level on points. They have winnable games and we have.......
I think that’s about right. If we can keep this squad together, their combination of youth and ability make me believe they will achieve remarkable things. But who keeps their squad together these days beside Real, Barca, Bayern...? Even so, given I expect Levy will be very sticky about letting young players go, and the number of good young players we have, there still is a lot of hope for the future. It helps a lot that our key player seems to shift most weeks. If we were a team with one clear superstar, as in Bale days, our chances of progressing would be much worse. Pochettino so far gives me plenty of reason for optimism. I had had more reservations earlier, but it seems he has a good grip--or at least some grip--on the danger of running the best players into the ground. The truth remains that he, like the squad, have all the work to do in demonstrating they are more than promising young talent. But I’m excited. Why not be excited? We have the world’s best stadium on the way, and one of the best collections of young talent. Like most Americans who back teams in six sports, I’ve seen plenty of good, bad and ugly, and I like a very promising young team like Spurs more than any, including (semi) perennial champions. The latter get a bit dull, tbh, and you can’t help feeling like a glory hunter, even if you’ve backed them since you were very small.
