Agreed. Who took the Captains armband after half time? There didn't seem to be the leadership that Jose gives?

I'm 99% sure it was Davis. He had the armband right at the bottom of his sleeve and the armband is black so hard to see. In fairness he led by example with his individual performance. Fonte would have been screaming advice and encouragement at the team though.

Calm down. We were under pressure. It happens and is understandable. Romeu is a good replacement for one game against a team like Sunderland.

It was stupid though. Especially the first one when we weren't under pressure. I'm a big fan of his since he signed for us but he does pick up too many silly yellow cards, although this was his first red card for us.

Where Wanyama was on 3 yellows before the game, does this count as 2 yellows making it 5 now or just a red or both?

I asked this question the moment he got sent off. For my money, it's a two match ban. One for the red card, one for five yellow cards. But I'm not 100% certain on the ruling.

(I also wasn't 100% certain if he was on three yellows or not, but given that it was Vic, I figured he probably was!)

Right, I have read the whole thread before chipping in with my two pennorth. First of all, I had a great day, lovely to meet FLT and Vin and their boys, and Dave. All lovely people.

Then the match. After such a brilliant first half I still can't work out what went wrong. Lack of leadership, some poor decisions by key players, and Bournemouth upping their game all contributed, but from my vantage point high in the Kingsland overlooking our goal, there never seemed to be any danger of their scoring. Not once. Not a chance. And in the end, after going a whole half of us defending resolutely (Virgil and Cedric were both immense), we won 2-0. I know the scoreline doesn't tell the whole story, not by a mile, but come on guys, this wasn't Saints battering the opposition and failing to score, nor was it us surrendering a lead and the points. We won, and we are up to 7th.

On the Vic ban, I believe neither yellow counts to his total, so he gets a one match ban for the red but he is still effectively on 4.

Yeah, was thinking the same, hoping he may get away with it if the 5th was a second yellow and only have to suffer a one game ban. Probably wishful thinking, we shall see I quess.

If neither yell counts he would still be on 3, no?

I thought he was already on 4 before today but I might be wrong. The fact is I know nothing.

The one thing we do know for a fact is Vic picks up too many stupid yellow cards.

Can't argue with that. I thought his first was a little soft, but once he was booked he seemed to be much more careful, right up to the time he rushed in and got his second, which was completely unnecessary.

Chill out. This is big Vic we're talking about. The man who is probably the most responsible of everyone for our quality defensive record over the last couple seasons. Being a DM is probably the hardest job on the pitch, trying to break up all the attacking play of the opposition. And Vic's a gent, when does he ever get in the refs face and give him hassle? You know what, he'll make another mistake or two this season, give the ball away a few times too. Don't insult him, just forgive him. He's only human (i think).

I was nervous watching that second half because, (a) I'm a football fan, and (b) my team were playing in a derby. It wasn't comfortable viewing at all. However, had I been a neutral, I know I would have been a lot more relaxed about Saints' likelihood of winning the match. Bournemouth dominated for the whole 45 (showed what a good team they can be, and yes, caught us unaware, due to their shocking first half), but still only had one decent attempt at goal. That's pretty mean defending.

I wonder how differently a Brit and a European would summarise Saints' second half performance; solid defensive display or ****e attacking display? Pretty sure I can guess.
