Miserable sods, Ive been out trick n treating with my 2 lads. Got to admit only visit the houses that have decorated the house with Hallowe'en stuff. Before the kids then then I'd definitely have agreed with you lot. Close curtains, lights out and ignore the kids.
Well you cant win can you Went and got loads of sweets for the kiddies coming around Last year we where bombarded and ran out of goodies **** me only had 2 knocks at the door tonight I feel as left out as Meg from Family Guy
Shuddup Meg. Whats up with you all. Harmless fun. The daughters come in with two big sacks full of goodies. I've now sent her to bed as its too late for her to eat them... hehe
I went in the local at lunchtime; had 2 pints of SB, served by the landlady who had huge glitter eyelashes, a witches hat, etc; and when the chef finished I watched the second half of the Mourinho - Klopp do with him and another guy, on a pad. I just loved the repeated "I have nothing to say", repeated over and over again to the mics and cameras. Bet he had summat to say to the lads in the dressing room, though...
I had a good time, went and saw lots of family alters at the Día de Muertos event and then I went to the british pub and had fish and chips so you all should approve.
I went to the Fox and Goose, its the trendy English Pub as opposed to the trashy English Pub called The Streets of London both are in Sacramento. http://foxandgoose.com/ http://streetsoflondon.net/
I don't think it's that much of a new thing as I remember doing it in the early 80's. What I don't like is if they don't make the effort. We had three kids come at one point with only one in costume, but all three took big handfuls of sweets. The two not in costume then tried coming back later in costume, but told them to get lost. What happened to 'penny for the guy' though? I don't think I've seen anyone doing it since I was a kid.
Parental fears of it being penny from a ****? Lazy kids just expecting mum or dad to give them the money?
Halloween hasnt made it to Filey yet on a scale of noticing it much. Most likely get popular in 50 years time.
I've just had my breakfast of a Refresher Bar, a Drumstick Lolly, half a packet of Chewits and some marshmallows. Made up twelve bags of halloween goodies last night, only 6 went. Gonna put the rest in the cupboard for Penny for the Guy before I am sick !
Trick-or-treating has been done since the 16th century in the British Isles. As Halloween evolved from Samhain, a Celtic pagan festival, it was widely practiced in Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Cornwall. We had something in northern England based on the Old Norse festival Winter Night's but I don't think we did the whole trick-or-treating thing. The Irish exported it to the New World, the Americans commercialised it and that's pretty much what we have today.
