http://www.teamtalk.com/news/ref-review-newcastle-wronged-liverpool-most-favoured I don't know if anyone reads this each week; nothing much contentious this week but they keep a running table of good/bad refereeing decisions for each week. This season Bournemouth according to this table have had 6 bad decisions against them and none for. We have one for. A bit of Karma maybe, but proof of bad luck to add to the injuries.
If we hadn't been in the Championship last year I would have been thrilled that Bournemouth got into the Prem. Now that they are there I have ditched the objections I had to the way they got promoted simply because I ALWAYS want he small teams to stay up. I object far more to the arrogance of many supporters in the Prem - all this, "We should be beating promoted teams," stuff. Bournemouth can be criticised for many things, but the media love-in is not their fault. The media will turn against them soon enough. In contrast, it seems that many Watford fans enjoy the way that Watford are dismissed in the media. "Nobody likes us. Everybody hates us." That strikes me as being inverse snobbery. Of course we all have irrational objections to certain teams. That is part of being a supporter. Some of that hatred is institutionalised so that it becomes self-fulfilling and self-perpetuating. According to the Telegraph, the rivalry between Sunderland and Newcastle originated in the civil war. Our dislike of them up the road is over a hundred years old, and everyone dislikes Milton Keynes for many reasons, not least because of the way they were created. The teams I want relegated are those that think that they should stay up by right. I want the pygmies to slay the Giants, to use the terms used by that Newcastle journalist. I don't care who the pygmies are. I want the Championship to be full of teams that once were great, whose supporters believe that their past should give them automatic promotion. I want the Premier League to be full of teams like Watford and Bournemouth and Norwich. I want Brighton and Reading and Rochdale to join us. And I want this to happen before the concept of promotion and relegation is rejected by the money-brokers who run the game, and who want to preserve their investments. There you go. Rant over.
I feel a bit for Bournemouth with their injuries but they are a rival (or maybe not) for the bottom 3 so shouldn't#t feel too sorry for them! The key is to have good back up and ensure your experienced players perform (compare Boruc to Gomes..)
Owners, Owners ,Managers and players come and go its the fans that are there for life . I dislike Bournemouth because of there current manager but most of all there players, i dont hate them .
Disliking another club's players is something all of us probably indulge in from time to time. Yet in most cases we won't ever have met them and will have gleaned our information about them from very unreliable sources. I'm sure there are many I wouldn't want to share an evening with, but then they'd probably find my company not to their liking either!
This has actually turned into an interesting discussion. I think I can honestly say that I don't have (nor seek) any affection for other 'smaller' clubs. I don't like Bournemouth for ALL of the reasons posted here and also (in part) because we have no other team we can seriously call rivals in this division. So it makes it a tiny bit more interesting. And judging by the reaction of Watford fans at the away game this season, there is a lot of animosity towards them. Otherwise, I don't really care who else finishes in the bottom three, as long as it's not us and I don't really care who finishes above us and the order in which they finish above us.
You seem to misunderstand what I wrote (which was clearly about fans of other clubs) but, since you ask, I have come across and indeed sat in front of quite a few "true Watford fans" over the last 35 years whose company I would happily do without!
I know what you mean Theo. The last time I stood on the Vic Terrace there was a West Ham fan close by. His good natured banter started before the game and continued throughout. He was truly one of the funniest men I have ever come across and I would have happily spent more time with him. By contrast the last time I sat in the GT stand I had an equally vocal Watford fan sat just behind me. If I had had a spare sock with me I would have cheerfully rammed it down his throat to stop the foul mouth ranting that went on the whole game.
I was having a large "tounge in cheek so you misunderstood me , and yes there is good and bad at every club
I'm glad that you mentioned the Dale as their current top scorer was born in Jersey! Seriously though, living here there are a load of different clubs with supporters and we remark on how our teams are doing, and there are the usual comments towards each other around matches if our teams are playing each other, but it's as jovial as comments with Dave when we play Norwich. Due to the amount of Portuguese that live here, the clubs with the biggest numbers of supporters on the island are probably Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.
