Exactly. I'm not going to slag off the fact someone is perhaps willing to go to the next step and be "proactive", but This seems somewhat disingenuous. I think Nick is right in pointing out about an agenda. But let's indulge the scarf. Are we to assume everyone goes out and find one? Are they readily available? Can I opt for a navy and cream ?
Various people have talked about sourcing black and white scarves for a fiver, but the whole idea is risible. Can you envisage our serious fans in the North Upper rushing out to invest a fiver that could be spent on beers instead ? If we lose on Saturday & you want to make your feelings to Meire clear, all you need to do is stand behind the West Stand at full time and chant. That tactic get rid of Pardew.
You had this from the CAST today too: Given their Woolwich meeting which achieved absolutely nothing, and I still have no idea what they do or the value they provide, it's kind of cheeky that they're asking people to join or renew.
They won't do that because it comes back to the point they still crave to be involved. Scarves. Honestly.
From their own Twitter: @CAFCBlackNWhite: People with experience are not being allowed to aid the club on a voluntary basis. Why?? #CAFC #SpellitOut #BlackAndWhits At least they aren't hiding their real purpose.
Only if you accessorise with a similar colour scheme. And wear denim with brown shoes to offset uncoordinated juxtaposition. Protests can still be fashionable, methinks.
Cat out of the bag with that one Translation - There are a couple of fans who did well under Murray, and want to be back in the spotlight again.
Luzon has just given a Press Conference. @HenryIrving10 was there, and has re-Tweeted a couple of photos of our two famous local journos grilling him.
Thing is I don't think a trust is a bad idea, it's just run poorly. I don't think setting up a rival one would be a good idea either just for the fact that it will divide further. The scarf thing is ridiculous, it'll lead to further divides in the ground as things get political between scarfers and non-scarfers, further directing attention and abuse away from Duchatelet.
@Konstantin What did the meeting at Woolwich Town Hall achieve earlier this year? On a positive note - according to Sqwarka we are top of the league
It's true, the majority are purely interested in results, if we win 5 in a row it'll all disappear again and everyone will be delighted. Duchatelet doesn't give a toss about what fans think, hence why the Woolwich meeting failed. So I guess the options are to organise protests outside the ground outside of games and attempt to bring the atmosphere in to the ground or to organise boycotts. I can't see boycotts working because there will always be those that go to every game regardless, causing a split between the happy-clapper loyalists and traitorous boycotters. Protests outside the ground could bring unwanted media attention to the board but it could also make us look spoiled and greedy like it did with the Blackburn campaign against the Venkys and Kean. Maybe a consistently toxic atmosphere throughout games could help but again could cause divisions with those that want to "get behind the boys" regardless. To get rid of him we need to know what he wants, is he in it for the money or to prove a point? Hitting him in the pocket through merchandise/food boycott and maybe a relegation could work quite well if it is the former. However, if it is an ego thing I'm not sure if any of this would make a difference, in which case its all futile. Generally, I think the Trust could do with a complete clear out, they have spent too long as insiders, a fresh view is needed. Any time we lurch into "crisis" there is a mention of the Valley Party spirit and the usual crew get together to reminisce and wish it was happening again. Maybe its wishful thinking but I believe a trust that could unify fan opposition would be more useful than nothing. Hopefully we finish in the Sqwarka playoffs!
@Konstantin I think some fans are in danger of over complicating it. We lose v Brentford, we have a spontaneous angry protest of the type that got rid of Pardew. Wouldn't it be locical for G21 / CAST / Rick and his Rat bag to focus on doing something when the media are actually looking at Charlton ie: Sky v Ipswich ? There are all sorts of protests that will draw national attention to our plight.
I'm not trying to be dramatic when I say we will be going back further if Rick gets anywhere near the club again. His popularity stemmed from telling people how many tickets were sold for the next away game. His true colors came out in regards to his public attacks on Steve. He wasn't deemed good enough by Murray and varney and that ate him up. A bitter individual. Stick to fanzines.
Super - just about the only statement Meire has made that I have agreed with was her comment that there were too many people at Charlton who didn't have the skills for the roles. We had a Fans Director elected with barely 400 votes who went native as soon as he was introduced to free vol au vents in the board room, and refused to act on fans concerns. And a Head of Ops or whatever he was who saw his job description as entrenching his own position within the Club.
Thinking out loud - rather than this silly scarf idea which is just so far removed from any problem/solution (it achieves zero) there are things we can do. Draw their attention to the dwindling attendances. If your insistent on the scarves, then hang them over the empty seats. It provokes the club as the staff will have to go around tidying them up afterwards (unsettling to schedules). It hasn't been done, so would garner media attention. Finally - it has a point.
I am going to make a comeback for the home game against Ipswich, and run on the pitch with a polite message to the Belgians on my t shirt. Live on tv, it would make a great spectacle.
Definitely, TV coverage would be a great way to get wider media attention, however it won't be very effective as the lower areas of the stadium that actually make it on to the TV are the emptiest and I doubt anyone watching from home would notice a smattering of black and white scarfs against the sea of red. If we concede early again tomorrow the crowd will kick off like it did against Preston. If that can be sustained game to game then normally the board would come under pressure, I'm not sure Duchatelet will care but if it impacts results enough then it may change something. Thinking about it, the club should dig up that sea of red campaign again, it would work very well with our current attendances.
