HDM Player ratings... Allan McGregor: Held a long-range drive from Murphy but Ipswich were toothless. Preserved his clean-sheet with a late save. 6 Moses Odubajo: Much more like the right-back Steve Bruce felt would flourish with City this season. The freedom to attack has brought out his best. 8 Michael Dawson: Booked for a cynical foul in the first half and flirted with another after the break. Always switched on even as City coasted. 7 Curtis Davies: The ever-present lasted just 17 minutes before being forced off with a calf injury. Likely to miss a reunion with Birmingham. 6 Andy Roberston: Although his use of the ball had room for improvement, he added a fresh dynamic to City on the left. Wonderful stamina and never afraid to push on. 7 Ahmed Elmohamady: Asked to play further up field on the right of midfield and far more threatening with his pace. Set up the perfect chance for Clucas. Much better. 7 Jake Livermore: Avoided the cull in Bruce's weekend midfield and worked well in tandem with Meyler, hunting mistakes and launching attacks. 7 David Meyler: A first Championship start since early September and capped an impressive night with a picture-book volley. 8 Sam Clucas: Moved out to play as an orthodox left winger and to thank for setting up Bruce's opener when digging out a deep cross. 7 Chuba Akpom: (Starman) Recalled after catching the eye at Hillsborough and dispatched a clinical finish late in the first half. Like the player of August. 8 Abel Hernandez: Spurned a great headed chance early on but the striker's confidence was apparent for the second City goal. Earned an ovation when replaced. 7 Substitutes: Alex Bruce (for Davies 17) A first goal in over five years came against his former employers, with a clean-sheet to boot. 7; Sone Aluko (for Hernandez 68) Will have fancied his chances of joining the fun but wasn't to be. 6; Harry Maguire (for Dawson 80) A first league appearance of the season, handing his skipper a late breather. 6; Not used: Eldin Jakupovic, Tom Huddlestone, Mohamed Diame, Shaun Maloney. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull...tory-28021802-detail/story.html#ixzz3pBiLsBXE
We're spoiled for choice as far as managers go. Just look how many potential candidates post on here.
What last nights result shows is when Bruce gets his team selection right we can & will beat anyone in this division. What is so frustrating is that Bruce still doesn't know his best formation or the players to then fit into that formation & it seems pot luck when he actually gets it right. Its so obvious that Huddlestone offers nothing in midfield, he is not suited to The Championship & I hope he goes in Jan to a Premiership team. We need grafters in midfield like Meyler. With the squad we have we should be beating teams 3-0 every week, but that's the first time we've scored 3 goals in the league since 26th Dec 2014 when we beat Sunderland 1-3
Not knocking the performance of the team at all, it was a great result. I still fell that Odubajo and Elmo are not on the same wavelength. A couple of times Odubajo seems to hesitate hitting the ball upfield into space for Elmo to run onto. That hesitation causes Elmo to check his run, allows opposition to get into position, Odubajo hits it forward giving Elmo little chance of getting in behind the defence. Got to say though, in the first half there was some neat one touch passes between them to send Elmo on his way. This squad still has more to give, someone is in for a right thumping, I don't mind waiting until the 5 Dec (TWS)for that to happen.
I don't get this we played awful 1st half We went in 2 nil up, Clucas should have scored and Hernandez shoukd have scored. If they had both scored and we,d have gone in HT 4v0 would we still have had people whinging. Sadly i think yes
I think he was meaning before he went to United, considering he joined them in 87. Even so, United would not have paid him that much back then compared to wages now.
If we sign RDM as manager I'll eat my hat. I don't actually have a hat, so I'll go out and buy one just to eat.
I see your point! But how many would have slated Bruce if meyler had had a bad game (which he can from time to time ) after the first 20 mins I was saying no to clucas & meyler because they don't offer a goal threat! But I'll admit they played well as the game opened up!
No, in fact I was very keen that we get him. A manager who had managed Sunderland as his biggest club is a much more realistic signing than someone who has won the Champions League.
I do enjoy the posts about us playing rubbish football and then talking about employing RDM. His teams, always, play dull, stultifying football based purely on keeping clean sheets and hitting on the break. Cue comments about that's how we play now but RDM really would be no improvement. And before anyone asks I havent got any other suggestions. I think Bruce is doing alright.
Bruce and Maguire are both up to it, in fact I see Bruce jr. as a safe pair of hands to step in, Maguire is more of a risk with less experience. I feel sorry for Harry, I think he will make it in the game but probably not with us
Maguire was one of the best defenders in the league when he was at relegation-doomed Wigan last year, I think he'll do alright.
You dont think RDM was a bit of a shock signing for Chelsea? I'm sure all the managers on here could have won the Champions League with that Chelsea side.
Burnsy interviews SB after the game (hope it's not already been posted?): http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34588752
