Sunderland winger Sebastian Larsson has said he believes the club's other new players are a sign of its ambition. He is one of nine summer signings including former Manchester United defenders Wes Brown and John O'Shea. He told BBC Tyne & Wear: "It's nice to see that the club's been able to attract players like O'Shea and Brown - big players who've been at a big club for a long time. "I think it's a sign that the club's trying to move in the right direction." The Swedish international signed for the Black Cats in June 2011 from Birmingham City on a free transfer, after making over 200 appearances for the Blues. Known for his ability at set-pieces, he said he is hoping to make a strong impact on the club. "I like to think I can bring a few goals for the team." He added that he is excited at the prospect of linking up with striker Asamoah Gyan: "[He] is a fantastic player, that's want you want as a winger. "I like to cross the ball and get it into the box and want people to get on the end of it, so to have players like him is brilliant for me." He added that although he is optimistic Sunderland can improve on their mid-table finish in the last campaign, he is realistic about what they can achieve in the next. He said: "I'm not saying that we're going to be playing Champions League football next season but you've got to always keep trying to move in the right direction step by step. Hopefully, that's what the club's doing right now." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/14123873.stm
Nice to see all the players being realistic, yet confident, and seemingly very content. We could be in for a smashing season.

BB, My thoughts exactly. I havenât been this excited for the season ahead since being on a promise as a young lad with the lass of my dreams at the local pub. Gardner - targeting England place: "I said at the start of last season if I don't score at least 10 goals this season I'd consider it a failure and I'm going to say the same about this season." David Vaughan "I worked so hard to get to the Premier League, to the top level, so you don't want to just chuck it away easily," "Hopefully I can play a lot for Sunderland next season but leaving Blackpool on a downer wasn't very nice." This is just the drive we need to become a real threat to the top 8
Everything coming out of the lads is top class. Not over the top, not rash or bold predictions and aims, just a sense of confidence and faith. Is it not ****ing August 13th yet...
Aren't you glad there's no games on a Friday. Mind being Anfield I could probably arrange for a 20 footer of beach balls to arrive into port just in time. Best you arrange for their inflation as I can get more in flat packing that way.
