No, I don't think that's the case WS. As a mod, I have to scan threads all the time, and it's time consuming stuff, especially when you have to read stuff that doesn't quite float your boat. When I was an ordinary member here I used to find news from outside, come to the forum, have a quick look at the thread headlines, then run through the obvious ones to make sure, and by the time I'd done that someone else had posted the news.

If you get quite cheesed off about it, don't just sit there and grimace. Tell a mod. We can delete the later thread, or merge it, or do other things, including advising contributors to just check a bit better before posting. That advice isn't just for you, but everybody.

The blank screens you get are almost certainly due to anti-tracker software that your computer is running. If it is good stuff, like Ghostery, you can pop into its blocked list and allow Twitter and Facebook [or whoever you want] and it will allow those messages through, so no more blank screens.

That was very close to my thought at the time. I think it took me all of .0001 of a second to make the Koeman/Weah/Ali Dia/SFC/Koeman connection. :)

Just back from the forum? Really enjoyed it. Main thing for me, is that if we keep progressing there will be a good chance that Ron will stay and sign a new contract, and that he really doesn't like players agents.

Interesting comment as well about the length of contracts given when signing new players. The younger they are the better chance we can get them on a 5 year deal as we have done with VVD. Also that 2 players turned down bigger money from other a premier league clubs this summer, to sign for us? Classie and Soares???

That was quick Brixham. Did you have a helicopter to get home to Devon.? :) Incidentally, was there any chat before or after the Solent programme slot.?

Yes, I would agree with Clasie and Soares, but perhaps VvD.

Working in the Southampton area so was able to go. No there wasn't any chat before or after, as soon as the show finished they all buggered off.

PompeyLapras might be interested to know that Saints are trying to get the Southampton Ladies team back onto an upward track again. At the moment, we have 3 Ladies teams with associations to SFC, all playing at a lower level than when there was an official Southampton Ladies team back in the Rupert Lowe era.

I enjoyed that, I assume the questions were vetted before being asked as their was a decent mix. Think it could of gone on longer, perhaps next year the club can put out a youtube only extra part as I understand Solent probably can't devote anymore air time to it.

Plenty of questions that only fans could/would ask and all three panelists were open and honest (even behind the Ralph waffle). I got the impression Ralph was desperate to tell us all the exciting things he has been working on, but can't yet.

Hopefully the two fans who asked the ticketing questions will see some reaction from the club. I think a loyalty type scheme would be a great idea. So if you purchased cup tickets or away tickets or merchandise they would count toward discounts for season tickets etc

I do think the club have agreements with a handful of clubs on away tickets (£25 with Swansea, newcastle, WBA), but more of those would be welcome.

The final thing of real interest to me was Les Reed's interpretation of FFP measures. Like Cortese, when FFP was being voted upon to be introduced, he obviously doesn't like FFP. But there is one thing that we can read into that. Quite obviously, Saints could pay the players more if they wanted to, but FFP prevents that from happening, and because FFP is based on a percentage of the previous year's budget, the higher paying clubs can make a bigger increase in actual money than Saints [and other clubs at a similar paying level] can. It's no wonder Les calls it FUP or Financial Unfair Play. The big get the pick of the best players who are motivated by money [that's nearly all of them].

Is it just me or is that just rude? I tend to find that when successful people talk it's a good idea to listen....

Tbh, if you want to put Sadio out of reach, £50M isn't going to do it. Someone will bite, and frankly, at the moment, I'd rather have the player. :)

No you're right it's rude and a waste of a place. Someone genuinely interested could have gone instead.

I think this is a bit of what you get when people are satisfied. If Saints were doing badly, and perhaps heading for relegation, everyone would be 100% awake. And people also have their preconceived ideas. Ralph opens his mouth and people expect nothing but platitudes. But Ralph comes out with oodles of proper stuff if people are just willing to listen. He has a North American delivery, which means he gives inclusive answers, full of reiterated background. Yes, it can be boring, but he's been there and done it. Not many other sports people have achieved so much. He's certainly worth his 20 minutes of respect.

Quite agree that this is often not factored when we talk about players leaving and why the club don't pay more.

Also explains why the club is till low on the wages table, despite being higher on the revenues (thanks to transfers)

With Reed's final mention of FFP I think I finally really understood what is so unfair about it. To financially irresponsible clubs it is probably a good thing. But to responsible clubs, like Saints, it slows progress. What gets me is how ManC got the rules relaxed for them, so they could presumably pay outside of their previous season's budget.

I was there and the questions weren't vetted. Anyone putting their hand up could get a go.
Saints events always make me so proud at the moment.
Well done to Ron, Les & Ralph and Adam the MC.
I wish he'd asked Ron WHY George Weah was the best striker he played against.
I wonder if he realises that his cousin played for us :emoticon-0127-lipss

Thanks and fair play to everyone who asked a question then. I know it seems obvious, but so often at Q & As you hear different versions of the same question and they end up going in circles.

Lets hope Ronald gets that legend card

That sounded very positive and informative. Nice to know that Ron is willing to consider staying...obviously depending on other factors, but shows he isn't waiting by the door to leave. Would be great to have a person of his calibre stay...be a message of intent. Fingers crossed. Les's answer to the question about Mane was pure diversionary tactics (although funny) to avoid making a promise he can't make. Be interesting to see how plans go for American academies and Saints Ladies team...an EPL team should support a ladies side (part of community involvement). Obviously extending the stadium is not part of the immediate plans...I suspect they are still trying to draw breath after funding Staplewood.
