LEGENDS OF 75/76 TO RETURN TO LOFTUS ROAD Club to pay homage to QPR's legendary squad of 1975/76 at MK Dons home fixture - Club to welcome 75/76 squad back to Loftus Road - Players and staff will be presented with commemorative medals at half-time - Gordon Jago also set to return to W12 QPR will pay homage to the legendary class of 1975/76 at our home fixture next weekend. Rangers play host to MK Dons at Loftus Road on Saturday 24th October and we'll be dedicating the entire matchday to our heroes of 40 years ago, with members of the squad set to be in attendance. QPR have had some great teams over the years, but it is universally accepted amongst the R’s fan-base that the finest-ever side assembled at Loftus Road was the class of 1975/76. Under the guidance of the late Dave Sexton, Rangers missed out on winning the First Division title to Liverpool by a solitary point. The flair of the team, and its style of play, attracted admiration from not only QPR fans, but followers of other clubs as well. Players and staff from that great team – as well as the legendary Gordon Jago, who many credit with building the R's dynasty – will be in attendance. And at half-time, the club will mark their return by presenting players and staff with medals to commemorate their achievements, 40 years on. Our award-winning matchday programme ‘Hoops’ will also pay tribute to the R’s heroes of yesteryear, with the cover dedicated to the side that many still hail as the greatest ever to wear the famous blue and white hoops.
All fans forums have been asked by Ian Taylor to put the above post up. I'm gutted that I can't make this game. It would also be a nice touch by the club to give these two a mention ... please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
Of course. Nice one mate. I feel bad about forgetting him. As I wrote the title I thought how it looked odd having Jago's name on there and not Sexton's. He then went completely out of my mind as I concentrated on the playing side of things.
For most of his retirement he lived down the road from me in Kenilworth. His death was marked with a lot of coverage and respect locally. A true, softly spoken, gent and years ahead of his time, though I would agree that Jago laid the foundations and Venables even as a player, was hugely influential.
I'm guessing that it was a relatively modest house too? Did you ever see or meet him? What I was selfishly disappointed about by his death, is that little was mentioned about his connection to QPR. It was mainly focussed on his time at Chelsea and Man U. I think you're right about the influence and roles of Jago and Venables. Who was his no.2 whilst at QPR? I can't seem to recall.
Was it Sibley? I think he was involved somehow. I saw Sexton a couple of times, but he struck me as quite frail and never the type to seek attention, so I left him in peace. Not sure where exactly he lived, but it wouldn't have been a mansion.
Sibley does ring a bell now you mention it. I suppose you could also add Rinus Michels as a kind of third party sleeping partner. As for Sextons house, I bet it was nothing like, let's say Stephen Ireland's gaff, bearing in mind that he's really just a journey man footballer. Not a FL runner up, Man U manager, an FA Cup winning manager or Lilleshall's first technical director etc ... I can't see Sexton living like this ... please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
He's not too far, about half a mile away. So are quite a few of them lot as their training ground isn't too far away. They all live up the posh end of town though. Jacqui Oatley, some geezer off of the 'Bill' ( Reg Hollis? ) Aaron Hughes ex Fulham footballer who nearly joined us a few years ago and Neville Thurlbeck the infamous News International phone hacking journalist live down my road though. A bit of a weird mix.
Great era nines at least the club are plugging into their roots No hoops because of regulations is still a classic by Taylor Frustrating thing is the club's image wouldn't take much to sort out Too much corporate This era established us and is without doubt our strongest identity I feel passionate about the brand guardianship and it needs bringing inline ASAP
Great times and great team. It was a travesty that they didn't win the title, I still remember the agonising wait between our final game at home to Leeds and Liverpool's at Wolves as though it was yesterday. Sadly I won't be at the game either as it is number three son's graduation ceremony that day, some things are indeed more important than football.
As a young 12 year old I saw about 17 of our home games that season and the sheer brilliance of that team is the like we will never ever see again from a QPR side...from one to eleven there really were no weak links...only three points dropped at home in the whole season...
As an Aussie that has followed our beloved team since 71, if there was any game that I could have the privilege of attending thee Loftus Road, it would be this game. The team of 75 - 76 is what brought this silly old fool to support this club for his remaining years. Sometimes time, will not educate one to know any better. Gotta love the team.
A great great side.......sadly younger supporters are unlikely to ever experience such football from the R's.......to witness that side play that type of football was a pleasure. Always thought it was going to be the start of fantastic times for the R's, instead it was a one off......
