Former UTD Cheif exec will be the new UEFA boss He plans to make FFP much tougher. Poor ££££ and PSG and to a lesser extent Chavbus will struggle in the coming years. Looks like it will just be UTD and Arsenal as the big boys
...and, unfortunately, the Chavs & City's lawyers and accountants will dance rings around any new regs, as they've done so far.
Have they? They think they have finally got around it but Gill will be a different kind of thorn in their side than Platini (who had a vested interest in PSG). City have quite obviously been impacted as have Chelsea. Just look at their spending. city and PSG continue to try because they don't care about any fines. Hopefully Gill will find a more appropriate punishment. Ffp seems to be working elsewhere too. Debts are down, clubs are more stable, once major leagues are back on the up. Long way to go though.
I agree that the previous excesses of the City's and their like have been moderated by FFP. However, they still get away with far more than the original regs stipulated that they should. In my view, that trend will continue. As fast as Gill & co. come up with new rules, their lawyers will be devising ways around them.
The money bag clubs are small fry in football. Just because they have x billions means nothing. Uefa has x billions itself and it not only owns the competitions, it sets the requirement for entry. No law, no lawyer, no club can fight uefa simply saying, your no longer invited. Uefas competitions are invitational.
Indeed it does. Reputation takes a hell of a lot louder though. Uefa and FIFA will be wanting to clean up their image now. Showing that money from scum will not polite this game will be high on Gills agenda. He's a massive believer on FFP.
I'll believe FIFA and UEFA have cleaned up when somebody, say The Swiss Govt , steps in to appoint an independent new head of FIFA to thoroughly investigate exactly what's been going on, and to try and make sure it's put an end to - permanently! As for Gill, as I've said, I hope he's successful, I just doubt that he will be.
Was talking to my mate at work about this. To be fair, I'm not sure how I feel on it. I don't think it's as bad as what people think.
Just like Premier League broke away from FA (and same thing happened in many other countries). European clubs could one day break away from UEFA. There have long been rumblings of European Superleagues. Odds of it happening in any given year are low but if UEFA piss off the big clubs enough the top leagues of Europe could split away and form a new organization... That would make UEFA destitute.
It nearly happened but UEFA managed to do a deal with the big 18 clubs of Europe and the CL as we know it was born
All the big clubs despise the money clubs so they wouldn't be included. Which would work just fine too.
Vladimir Putin for UEFA boss. Could launch an attack using UEFA forces against CAF. Gain more territory. There are ethnic Uefans in Caf territory so we have an excuse.
