Sod it lets get this on the go early. Being the glass half full lad that I usually am, going to back us to win this one 3-1 and get the season back on track. COYB.
I believe this is entirely possible Westy.....if those changes we all seek, actually happen! Encouraging noises from Mick today..he is almost as pissed off by the underperforming of his fave sweeties as we all are! I will go same as you, 3-1 in a vibrant, fluent, attacking game!
This will be my first league game of the season, jacked in my season ticket as now asst manager on Saturday afternoons to a new team in the SIL. Hope for a good performance and a few changes in personnel, lets see if MM keeps to his word after the international break.! My preferred line up, formation & score would be; Bart Parr Berra Smith (C) Knudsen Skuse AMN Bru Fraser Didsy Sears 4-1-3-1-1 3-1 COYBs
If I were Mick... ( well Yowerth would be in my team but hey ho ) based on what I've seen this season, must win home game, I would go..... Bart Parr/ Chambers/ Smith/ Knudsen Oar / Bru/ Skuse / Fraser Murphy / McGoldrick. May appear mad to leave Sears out - hell I don't want to - but the problem we have uptop IMO is McGoldrick, as our best player simply has to play. He's night and day ahead of anything else we have. I just cannot see a Sears/ McGoldrick partnership working at all, and we're still going direct more than we should so we need the focal point in attack. When Murphy went off vs Bristol City nothing stuck and it was an absolute waste of time having McGoldrick on the pitch. People will laugh at my next point - I think Tabb has deserved more mins this season. Not out wide, where he got hung to dry ala Alan Quinn last season, but in the middle of the park. Skuse for his read of the game doesn't have that bite we need in the middle, I'd even be tempted to try Tabb there in a home game and let the wingers properly bomb on. Bru/ Niles are good players but their positioning both leaves a hell of a lot to be desired. Niles vs Bristol City was anywhere apart from where he was meant to be. Bru often clocks up the most running, mainly because he's often 10/15 metres out of position in the first place! Bishop cannot come back soon enough IMO. I honestly think we've got plenty in the locker this season - yes Mick may frustrate with some of his choices at times but he's recruited very well out wide this summer, clearly highlighting the wide options as the main area to upgrade this season. Not sure any other manager would have attracted the four Mick has I feel the Pitman signing so far has been a bit of an awkward one - clearly a good player and Mick wants to give him minutes every game. Good to have the option but is he being used correctly - not sure he is. Mick has rotated plenty uptop - time to stick with a partnership and give it 6/7 games I say. Berra has been a bloody disaster this season, time to pick it up Christophe. Milk turns quicker but you read the game generally well. It's going to be another awkward game this. We really need the ball down more on the deck. Important two weeks, but I have a lot of faith in this lot. COYB.
Not long now is it. Oh nice to hear from you Mike, you always pipe up a couple of times a season. Lets see how Colchester are doing this season - actually not sure as I consider you a pointless club and haven't looked out for your results once but as you've popped over lets have a quick look. * 12th, 4 points off the play offs and 5 off the drop zone - not a bad start. How do you think you will fare this season? As you wish us no luck, I wish you no luck for your long away trip at Wigan.
Westy, you make a lot of valid points in your previous post above. I've also mentioned on another post, that I believe we need to utilise Tabby every so often. He has no skill, can't head the ball, not the greatest of tacklers, but he's one of these "nuisance" players - he hassles, gets in the way of opposing players, will always give 100%, tracks back and will get forward now and then. As much as I think Fraser and Niles have been a breath of fresh air for this club, teams have now worked out where our weakness is, and that we leave too much open space on the wings. Tabby will give cover to the full back, instead of having him isolated by decent wingers. I'd definitely give him more game time atm, maybe not to start the game (I'd have Oar in for starters), but definitely if we need to see a game out. I also agree that Mick needs to give our two forwards (whoever they'll be) more time together, instead of rotating nearly every game. I don't think Pittman should be a starter, we need to use him like Bournemouth did, off the bench with the odd start. Which leaves Sears, McG and Murphy - very tricky, as they all bring something different to the team. I honestly wouldn't know which pairing to use. Onto Saturdays game. Huddersfield are a strange team. On their day they can beat the best of them, but subversely can get smashed 4 or 5 by the bottom club. I'm pretty confident that we'll win this one. it won't be a walk in the park (when is it ever with us??), but think we'll win 2-0, with two goals in the last ten mins. I'd like to see Oar given a chance, to see what he can do for us, and I would've like to have seen another right back start, with Chambers coming in for Berra, who I think has been one of worst performers so far. but that'll never happen. Team I'd go for: Bart Knudsen Smith Chambers Parr Oar Toure Bru Skuse Sears Murphy Subs: Gerks Berra Niles Pittman Tabby McG Malarcyk
Oh yeah, he really shook the team up. Lots of changes made I see......not. I am pleased to see Oar start, not the hardest decision to make with Fraser being out though, is it?
Well, thats not the team I would have chosen! Dont see Pitman and Sears hitting it off either.... cue 2-0 by half time! Need a resounding, strong, confidence boosting performance today...hmm.
