Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola says the club will "fight to the end" to sign Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

The European champions had a bid of about £27m rejected by the Gunners in June this year.

"Barcelona have made an offer, Arsenal another and we have until 31 August to try to reach an agreement," said Barca coach Guardiola.

"We will fight to the end to try to get Cesc because we believe he will improve the team and the squad."

He added: "There is a sum of money in the strong box set aside for this signing but if it doesn't work out it will be kept in the box for something else."

Fabregas was a product of the Barcelona youth academy before joining Arsenal as a 16-year-old in 2003. He did not travel with the Arsenal squad on their pre-season tour of Asia.

Barcelona's sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta indicated that the club's priority before the end of the transfer window was the signing of a new striker, with Udinese's Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez set to move to the Nou Camp.

The former Spain goalkeeper said: "As we understand it we are in the final stages of the negotiations to sign Sanchez and an agreement will happen very soon."

"But I would have said the same thing this time last week. As in a good film, it seems sometimes the end takes a little longer."

How about you quit fighing and just cough up the cash fools?

FFS, just put up the bleeding £35-£40m required and this whole saga goes away!

I love Fabregas and want him to remain but I love Arsenal more and this can not be helping with preparation for the new season! Urghhhhhhhhh

    NEWS ON: Arsenal, Southampton

Southampton have scoffed at Arsenal's bid for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Daily Star & SSN's say Saints had made it clear for months they would not do business for less than £12m, yet Arsenal came in with a bid at just half that.

The official offer was treated with disdain when it was received, with Saints’ executive chairman Nicola Cortese believed to have thrown it straight into the bin with hardly a glance.

And they have left Arsenal in no doubt they should forget coming back with another bid unless they start to get serious with the money they are prepared to pay.

One source said: “It was regarded as derisory, and would not have been accepted even if the club had been on the brink of bankruptcy.”

This is how it will unfold:-

AO-C (OxoCube) signs for someone for £12m and there will also be a 50% sell on fee. <ok><laugh>

You may or may not have heard it here first.

A fair price is what we want to sell him for and no less, seeing as he's under contract and we don't have do what Barca want.

opinion is irrelevant. The club publishes a valuation. You either pay it or negotiate. I have the impression Barca have questioned the valuation for several years. Arsenal keeps saying no. So, pay up, or wait to end of contract.

Its all just brinkmanship at the end of the day.... when the transfer deadline is looming Barca will step up if they really want Cesc but by simply making token offers they are fully well aware that they are unsettling him. Who knows, maybe Arsenal cave in if he throws a tantrum and they think he won't perform as he can.

Though Arsenal are by no means innocent in unsettling players over the years I think it's fair to say we've never gone to the extremes that Barca have. That it has gone unpunished beggars belief but then we're not the golden boys of European football so we play to different rules. These long term pursuits of players are unpleasant for all concerned and I even found myself empathising with a Spud at work about the Modric scenario. John Terry just exacerbated the situation the fecking tard.

THAT'S what Barca have done to me, they've made me pity Spurs. Genuine pity, not 'my God, aren't they cr*p pity". I've a good mind to sue them...
