After the week I've had, I shall be enjoying a beer tonight. One of life's greatest pleasures on a Friday evening, and no Nick Grimshaw or Reggie Yates (don't even know if they're doing it, they're just the types who would) are gonna stop me.

I already have loads of health problems so smoking isn't an issue.

I believe you've missed out Fanuary (Movember for ladies), unless "Dry January" is the result of them doing that.

People get really high and mighty about smoking, kind of irritating. "Oh it's a dirty habit" Yeah, well so is picking your nose or taking your family out for a meal wearing baggy jogging bottoms or eating popcorn/any other food in a cinema while I'm trying to watch the film I just paid the better part of a tenner to watch. Some people eat loads of food and get really fat and then moan about it or wear leggings. I'd say that was just as bad if not worse.

If people want to smoke, let them. They've already been pushed outside of pubs, despite there being smoking rooms in most pubs until the ban. If you go and sit in the Vaults or other smoking area as a non smoker and moan about your clothes smelling or getting up your nose, well...no ****.

Who gives a **** if people want to smoke/drink/do drugs? It's their bodies. And any argument about smoking being a drain on taxpayer's money regarding the NHS is a load of bollocks because ***s are expensive and the reason they are expensive is because they're taxed to the hilt. If I get lung cancer, the money I've paid into the system by buying the ***s in the first place will be more than enough to pay for my treatment if I smoke for my entire life.

Who the **** wants to live forever anyway? My nana just passed away from pancreatic cancer at 82 and she looked terrible. FYI, she smoked her entire life but that wasn't what killed her, ironically. It's the same when people say tattoos will look **** and saggy when you're an old man. Yeah, so what? No offence to any of the over 60s on here but when I'm that age my appearance will be the least of my worries so I don't really care if I have wrinkly arms with ink on them. I'll care even less what state my liver and lungs will be at that age.

Eastern Europe tend to be a good place to look for a reasonably priced pancreas.

After my back op last year (and the very strong painkillers) I was not allowed to drink......as a lover of single malt that was very difficult ....when I could drink again I had little binges....but somehow after 5 months on the wagon it wasn't the same..........I cannot remember the last time I had an alcoholic drink.......possibly a few months ago back at the TT.......I received emails about giving up for October & raising money for MacMillan.....but as I wrote back & told them....it's not a challenge when you've already stopped ......I can still go to the pub & have a good time without needing alcohol

People who smoke five cigarettes a day for 10 years will have spent £5,475 on ***s. The tax burden on cigarettes in this country is around 77%. If I smoke for the next forty years I will have given £16,863 more or less to the treasury. That's more than what it would cost to get private lung cancer treatment.

And really, the most ridiculous? Do you not read some of the ****e posted on this forum on a daily basis?

It'll be more than that, you're basing it on the tax remaining the same. I don't know how you've come up with your 16k either, based on your first numbers of 10 years, turn it into 40 & that's £21900.
Although you could save more than that by just not smoking, but as you say that's your call.
Finally if you believe 16k will be enough for your health care, what decade do you live in?

16k is the money payed to the government in tax. £21900 is how much you'd spend on cigs over forty years. The overall tax burden is 77% give or take. As for your last point, we have a socialised universal health care system. If it's any consolation to you, if I get lung cancer I'll refuse treatment. <ok>

Tobacco revenue exceeds the cost of treatment of all smoking related illnesses by two to three times.
