Martinez ultimately cost him his job, as if Rodgers had have won the derby there's no way the could have sacked him this week, and maybe he could have ridden out the storm......ironic given he was the yanks original choice and he knocked them back.

Decision was made before the Derby.

Can't remember where I read it so I'll have to dig it out. And the speed at which we're progressing with Klopp combined with the fact that we have no intention of appointing an interim manager would indicate this has been planned before the Derby.

These situations are always fluid though. Had he won the derby 3-0 could they have sacked him? Nah, the finger was poised on the trigger and him not getting a result ensured that they pulled it.

So IF Klopp brings us some trophy success its all thanks to Martinez and EFC.

It will be gut wrenching for you blues should that happen, but I guess that will entitle you to celebrate any future success at LFC.<whistle>

he lost his job after Carlisle maybe, definitely after Sion. I am still of the opinion that he's a good corporate boy and played ball, and that he was told he's a gonner before this week, which was probably why he kept sayng I don't fear for my job, because he'd already lost it <laugh>

The entire 'golden mile' down to Puerto Banus is just full of ugly consumerism and the worst elements that money can bring. It's the ultimate in 'image over substance'

I think the decision to sack Rodgers had been taken after Liverpool lost to West Ham. West Ham had not won at Anfield for over 50 years. The process of sacking Brendan Rodgers started then. If Liverpool had lost to Villa at Anfield, they should have sacked him then. Merseyside derby totally IRRELEVANT !!!!

He should have gone in May.
He was on his 9th life this season and a good start was essential
Nobody has lit the league up so far, with inconsistency everywhere, the season at least is still alive and Top4 still easily obtainable.

The thing that did for Rodgers in my view is his attitude to the results so far

Scrapeing a couple of wins in the league, and through against a League 2 side in the cup is not acceptable!
If there had been any signs of good things to come, then maybe

But the fact was, from his interviews, Brendan attitude was things were ok, the players were working hard.
He should have been raging, not to think his job was on the line and the performances were acceptable is not the mentality a Manager of Liverpool FC I want.

We need a Winners mentality, because that is what the fans expect, we are not Aston Villa,Everton,Spurs, a good season is not 5th,6th 7th, anything other than top 4 is a failure

I know we have no God given right to it, but we should expect it

In hindsight, I think FSG did the right thing - the right men weren't available in the summer.

We waited, minimal net spend, hired some cheap coaches and now the man we want is available.
