After shipping out both their wingers, Ashley Young and Stewart Downing for a total of £36m, Aston Villa are in dire need of quality reinforcements on that front and Wigan star Charles NâZogbia had emerged as their primary transfer target, with a deal of £10m reported to be in the final stages, earlier this week. The Frenchman was pivotal to Wiganâs survival in the Premier League and a bevy of clubs were willing to shell out money to acquire his services. With 9 goals and 5 assists, Charles was one of the star performers of last season with his big-game performances lighting up the DW Stadium. But now, reports have surfaced that Aston Villa gaffer Alex McLeish is getting frustrated with the highly rated French international who, it is believed, is holding out for a better offer from another club, widely considered to be Sunderland. NâZogbia is holding his ground for a better deal and the lure of linking up with ex-manager Steve Bruce at The Stadium of Light is proving a candy too teasing to refuse for the dynamic midfielder. But, McLeish wants to get the deal wrapped up before his side embark on their pre-season tour to Hong Kong this Saturday and is wary of the fact that the deal may yet land into messy waters, if not sorted out soon enough. Villa are offering NâZogbia £50,000 a week and McLeish is fearing that he may be getting messed around by the player for the second summer in a row. Ex-Birmingham chief McLeish has had a bitter experience with the Wigan winger who upped his personal terms last summer when Brum had agreed a deal, which had eventually collapsed at the eleventh hour. Aston Villa are desperate to avoid such a fiasco and have issued an ultimatum to NâZogbia to either accept their offer at the earliest or forget about plying his trade for the Midlands club. The club have already started looking at alternatives should NâZogbia decide a move to Villa Park isnât good enough for him, to avoid engaging in panicky deals later. Meanwhile Aston Villaâs pursuit of West Ham talismanic skipper Scott Parker may be reaching a dead end due to the unwillingness of the player to leave the lush greens of London and hence, Chelsea are frontrunners for his signature as a replacement for the injured Michael Essien. Whether McLeish convinces NâZogbia or Bruce comes up with a rescue plan, the stage is all set for an exciting transfer tussle.
This sorry saga has gone on long enough now and TBH I like most other Sunderland fans wish it would be sorted sooner rather than later. Who knows what will happen and if indeed he has already set his sights on us or is just holding out for more money one thing is for sure it would be a massive statement from our club if we got him. I just think it's abit rich for us and can't see Villa let him slip as they are desperate, afterall they have Bent who could go at any minute!!!!
I`m all Zogged out it has dragged on far to long now Wouldnt be upset if we got him but Would rather us go for Dempsey or Kranjcar both good player & it would piss DW off
It maybe a case of slowly slowly with this one. Any team bidding early for N'zog are going to have to pay Whelan's expected 10 million, however those with the nerve may bide their time and as the window gets closer to closing Whelan will have to drop his price. It all depends on how many want him. However the clubs arn't going to start a bidding war at 10 million although the final price maybe around there? Come January his value will be £4 million tops and he's free next year. Whelan has stated he has to sell. I have to admit I;m tired of the whole saga but we havn't bid for him and his price must be falling. Best ignore it until something more concrete comes along.
Think they may be too much tossing off going on in relation to this french mercenary. Andrex as sponsered by Charlie sticky poster.
Bruce came out yesterday and said its too pricey for us, he will keep an eye on things but I doubt he will be here next season, Villa have the cash to up his wages or their bid so its just a matter of time until he signs for them.
I've heard these stories a million times now, there seem to be conflicting reports every day that he's holding out for a move to either of our clubs. I think its safe to say he won't be heading up here, shame tho.
Personally I'm sick to death of the whole N'Zogbia saga and wish he would just sign for some f****r and be done with it all ! I really don't care anymore if we sign him frankly, and I don't think he would want to be at SAFC if we did !
I don't care if it takes till the last day of the window as long as we get him. Can't blame him for stalling over Villa.
The fact that he's apparently been holding out for a move to Newcastle and now a move to Sunderland just proves that he's all about the cash and nothing else.
Newcastle bid £12 million for him in January, why hasnt fat Mike put another bid in? he hasnt spent anything close to £12 mill on any of your signings so far. I would be a bit pissed off if I was Newcastle fans however it was like 2 minutes before the deadline and I really dont think N'zogbia wants to return to Newcastle because of the sour grapes, doubt he will come here either mind but I think there more chance of him ending up at Sunderland than Newcastle. This article smells like someone trying desperately to cling on to some kind of hope that we may sign him but I highly doubt it.
He said a lot of nice things about Newcastle on his Twitter account a while back. That, along with many apparent quotes from 'sources', gives the impression that he would like to move back here. Don't forget that his only problem was with Joe Kinnear. He didn't actually have any issue with the club itself. I think he's just after the most money though, so as far as that goes, Sunderland probably have the better chance. That's just because you guys seem more willing to spend money whilst Ashley is being as tight a **** as ever.
If Newcastle bid 12 Million today they'd probably actually get him. That wouldn't suit Fat Mike's plan at all. Only bid for players with no chance of success. That way the unwashed think they are trying and Mike doesn't have to spend a bean.
Either get him signed or tell him to **** off... It's been dragging on too long - mind I hope he ****s villa and Darren Bent about and it'd be really funny if he signs for us Bruce, I believe, has put this one to bed and said it's far too rich for us and we're not willing to pay him that much. I would love to see N'Zogbia in a Sunderland shirt but at the money's that are being quoted it'd be a no for me... If his demands drop and he's more sensible then maybe - or wait until January if he doesn't leave Wigan and then get him on a pre-contract £60k a week turns out to be a lot less when the up front fee is £0
you got me singing now..is that it a one line hit? where's the rest, if you need help calls for jerseymackem, he's good at that type of thing. at least make an effort..
