No point in speculating now, there's a game to worry about in a few hours.

    We'll find out soon enough.

If there's any truth in these Dick/Congerton rumours then it smacks of incompetence at board level.
OK, we can't blame Congerton for moving on if he's had a better offer, we'd all do the same in any line of work.
I'm left wondering though if it's because he's been offered better wages or because his hands are tied here.
Either way the board should be doing their level best to keep two men who actually know what they're doing.

Have the players been whinging on to Maggie again? It wouldn't surprise me at all quite frankly.
Does anyone actually know what that woman does apart from flutter her eye lashes & flash her cleavage?
If these two men go then I can see a fans revolt coming. The board are totally inept if you ask me.

Gazza would have given the reporter a slap on the back. Used to batter the poor woman himself.

Agree with this up until you start talking about Byrne flashing her cleavage. That just makes me want to throw up.

I think there's a huge problem at board level.

Most on here will know exactly what I think of the board. I`ve been going on about them for long enough.

We need structure and we need vision. As it stands we're currently a badly run business and nothing else.

I'm getting more and more concerned as everything seems to be a short term solution.

    Advocaat's future
Sunderland v West Ham (15:00 BST)

    Steve Bower

BBC football commentator at the Stadium of Lights

"The rumour mill on Wearside was that Dick Advocaat would walk out after the West Ham match this afternoon.

"He began his press conference denying the reports and ended it by saying he was the Sunderland manager on Friday and Saturday but that things can change in a week, month or nine months. There are suggestions he took his backroom staff out for a farewell meal and that sporting director Lee Congleton is set to resign.

"All it does is increase the pressure on Sunderland, they have not won any of their first six matches in the last three seasons and if they got a new manager it would be the fifth in the last two and a half years."

Is anyone else thinking the same as me? Is it just bad timing, or coincidence that Congerton is leaving just at the time when Big Sam is one of the favourites for the job IF Dick goes and is well known for refusing to work with a DoF?

I like Short but I think he needs to take a step back and do what a good business man should do... Surround himself by the best he can. He's clearly not doing that as it is.

I meant Pearson mate. Short imo wants the best for the club but is completely clueless, step down and get someone with a football brain in.

No smoke without fire here, seems like we are going for yet another manager a few games into a new season. Not his biggest fan, but if this all pans out like reports are suggesting, the only guy who can deal with this mess we are in is Big Sam. He knows what it takes to get a team playing as a team....some clarity is needed now at Sunderland we are in severe danger if going into free fall a'la the 15 point season.

Sorry. Misread that completely. Blocked Pearson out of what I read! That's what I think of that bloke.

Yeah we need a David Gill type in (Obviously we couldn't get him but that's what we need).

    That was my first thought.

I don't want Old Eggnog to leave but if he feels he's just not got the answers to our problems he has to walk, to do what's right for himself AND the club.

I said ages ago I thought Big Sam would be our manager before the end of the season, or words to that effect. If he does, then it won't be pretty to watch, but I think it will be effective and he will turn us around.

We'll be doomed if the best we can do is Pearson, Dyche or others with the same degree of PL experience.

If Dick Goes, Lets go for Big Sam, loads of premiership experience, will whip them into shape and make them hard to beat I know his football style is not great, but we have to stem the tide of defeat after defeat.

Dick Advocaat doubtful on Sunderland future
Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat admits he cannot say whether he will be in charge of the team for their next game against West Brom on 17 October.

Reports on Saturday suggested he would quit, having joined the team in March.

But asked about his future after a 2-2 draw with West Ham, leaving Sunderland second bottom of the Premier League, he said: "I don't want to give an answer.

"Today I am the manager, what will happen in next days, weeks and months, I cannot say."

Asked if he will be manager for the next game after the international break, he added: "I cannot say that. The newspapers must have something to write otherwise there is nothing in the newspapers."

Advocaat, 68, was appointed in March with the club one point above the relegation zone.

He guided them to Premier League safety and was due to leave the club, only to change his mind and sign a one-year deal.

However, Saturday's draw with West Ham left Sunderland without a win in eight games and leaves them five points from safety.

As far as I can see there's nowt in there we didn't already know about.
