i maybe wrong, But did not The Met Chief also say that he was quitting in protest to Neil Wallis being given the Police PR advisor role within the met ? Wallis is also an ex. NOTW arrestred person.? What a complete mess this is. I feel it could not only finish David Cameron But also bring down Murdochs empire. The Americans wont let go either over the other side of the pond. If the phone tapping of the 9/11 are proven then just think of the charges and lae suits that will be flying around ? Maybe Neil Hudgell needs to open an office up over in New York. But it may also be Bye Bye Murdochs, Bye Bye.
Yep - guaranteed to unite Democrats and Republicans (if 'hacking' is proved re 9/11); also, Yanks will be tough on US-based News Corp if it's proved they've been bribing a foreign police force.
It's a FARCE, it's not only NOTW involved !!! what about the rest? and now all these MP'S and former PM''s who were all in bed with these fookers, now want murdoch out? what about the MP's expenses scandel??? nothing much happed there !! and shouldnt the PM be sacked as all this happened under his watch !! As i have said before, its all bolitics
I don't think Cameron has anything to worry about at all, even Murdoch is unlikely to be held responsible for any of it, though he's obviously going to suffer financially(from the BSkyB deal collapsing, not from the NotW).
if the 9/11 hackings are proven Just watch Murdochs empire crumble. My concern is how far reaching is all this and what other major players are involved ? Sir Paul Stephenson (IMO) has resigned as he can see what sort of train is coming down the tracks. He does not want to be around when it pulls into the station. As for America ? Think of a Tsunami. A tidal wave of public anger and uproar for starters.
I agree. The US media will get stuck into Murdoch but I don't have the same confidence in ours. Probably one Panorama episode then it will be brushed under the carpet. Also another coincidence that Camay is jetting off to Africa just as the sh1te hits the fan.
this is great for cammy at the moment, he can push all his agendas forward while the lime light is off him !
Cameron's relationship with Andy Coulson should come under a lot more scrutiny now. Shame we haven't got a Washington Post in this country.
Sounds like A.C. John Yates quitting:
Murdochs have Brooks and Coulsen to take the fall for it, Brooks probably amply compensated which is sickening in itself
18.03 The Guardian reports that former News of the World showbiz reporter Sean Hoare, the first named journalist to allege that Andy Coulson was aware of phone hacking at the newspaper, has been found dead at his home.
the guy who blew the whistle on the news of the world phone hacking scandal has died. police arent sure if its suspicious!!!
Sorry guys, but watching from afar I just don't get this. Sure, blood is in the water and a press feeding frenzy is taking place, but some of the innuendo, supposed "connections" and further muddying of the waters by otherwise respectable media outlets like the BBC, Gruaniad, Telegraph etc. are just as sensationalist and misrepresentative as those found in the late lamentable NOTW. News International alleged practices are heinous if true, but most forms of investigative journalism involve some sort of impropriety in order to reveal what is hidden or being hidden. Look at Watergate: the end was deemed to justify the means in this case. What about other "public interest" stories? What is clear is that allowing the press to police itself hasn't worked, and if anything positive comes out of this saga, it is that this needs to change and change permenantly. The press has clearly been unable to distinguish between taste and titillation. But this current surge of public moral outrage is pure and laughable hypocricy; the public are just as guilty as any seedy journo or editor in buying in to this type of "news" purveyed by these tatty little rags: we are their audience, their lifeblood. The public need to change; that I fear will not happen, no matter how much stone throwing and handwringing takes place until this story is forgotten and the next comes along. These events say more about the society we live in than anything else. I'll get off my soapbox now.
It's simple really. Phone hacking is illegal and the fact that Rupert Murdoch has closed down NoTW shows he appreciates the repercussions will be far more serious than you somewhat trivialise.
There's also the claim that as well as hacking Milly Dowler's phone the journalist deleted the messages after listening to them. Whilst the hacking is bad enough, by deleting those messages they could have denied police access to vital evidence, either costing her her life, or someone else their's in all the years since it happened before they were able to catch the killer.
