Hello, everyone. Must admit there is one out tomorrow, from the county, who has attracted my attention. No inside information, whatsoever, but he does stand out somewhat at Wolverhampton. The geldings name is RIVER GLASS and he runs in the14 furlong handicap (6.45). Furthermore he’s owned by dear old Henry Ponsonby so is sure to be popular on the forum. River Glass didn’t see the racecourse until the August of his 3YO season and in his sole outing for Charlie Hills was a well beaten 4th of 4 at Newmarket – although he had obviously been showing something at home as he went off at just 100/30. He was then moved to the county (River Glass not Charlie Hills) and has subsequently had 2 runs for Alan King in well above maidens, albeit without much success, being beaten 54 and 55 lengths respectively. Because of this though River Glass, on his handicap bow, gets into this lowly contest on a basement perch of 45. In my opinion the fact that connections are sticking with the level rather than throwing the gelding over hurdles indicates that they think River Glass more than capable of inflicting a good deal of damage off this mark. Furthermore, the step up to 14 furlongs should be of great benefit given that his siblings include a 2 mile hurdle winner. The Alan King stable are also in fine form with 6 winners since 10 September. Breeding wise River Glass has much to boast about. His dam was a winner, from just 2 outings, and is a half-sister to St Leger and Breeders Cup hero, Conduit. Whilst his half-brother, Northside Prince, obliged 4 times and had a peak rating of 90 (which is exactly double what River Glass runs off of the morrow!). The star of the immediate family though must be the aforementioned winning hurdler who is River Glass’ half-brother – namely My Tent or Yours, I say, My Tent or Yours. In the NH sphere he’s won 8 times, finished 2nd in a Champion Hurdle and is rated 168. I’m really keen to see the odds that River Glass opens at latter on (Sporting Life are forecasting 14/1 at the time of writing) as I believe he’s a fascinating runner tomorrow evening on his handicap debut. Good luck all.
Avery speculative bet tomorrow with one at a huge price and another which looks value still at a shorter price. Ascot 3.25 Roossey 8-1 Ran well last time at York finishing ahead of the horse that is currently favourite in re-opposing again today yet half the price of the selection. I think 8's looks decent enough for a small win bet. Ascot 5.10 Kashgar 33-1 EW This horse started the season in a listed race and is not a bad horse to be racing from 80 in a class 3 handicap. He won two races last season a class 2 from 82 and a class 4 from 80 and this is the first time this season he has reached such low marks, so from 80 in a class 3 tomorrow things would look more positive than the price of 33-1 would appear. With the more than capable Tom Marquand taking off a further 3 I think he is definitely worth a small EW.
All the best with Kashgar gents but I've picked out Sunblazer in the lucky last at Ascot. Ran well at a hefty price in a better race lto at York finishing a plucky sixth. Ground is much more favourable tomorrow and the booking of SDS catches the eye. A decent ew poke at 25s for me.
No problem Stick - pleased you put it up also. Ron has put up my other one as well so it will either appear at the end of race day that great minds think alike or we are all as rubbish as each other.
Racing is in a shocking state, you have two jumps cards today which have so few runners that make the racing really lacking, a two runner novice chase to close one of the cards. It might as well be public schooling sessions. It's a friday, and this is the best we can offer?
22/1 commonly available this morn re River Glass (6.45 Wolverhampton). Think this more than generous. To use a terrible Chav expression, ‘’Ave it!’. Have had an each-way tickle.
And furthermore the barns of Mr Henderson, Mr Nicholls and dear old Pip Hobbs haven’t got a runner between them. To quote old boy Sean Connery, ‘Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh-ocking’.
It is only the 2nd of October though - should we really be crabbing the NH yards for not having all their team out and about already? Over in Ireland there are 2 Grade 2 NH events this weekend - Gowran Park's Champion Chase over 2 miles on Saturday and Tipperary's Istabraq Hurdle on Sunday. Neither race will feature a beast rated in the 160s, with only Clarcam (159) rated above 153 in either contest. Poor with a capital "P".
Nicky is afraid to run his sure, you might get one or two a week before he unleashes hell at the Triumph hurdle in March with 2 runners in once race
Nice heat at Gowran today, the 3:30. I look forward to hopefully seeing Carrigmoorna Rock complete a round again, certain to go close if she does. Whiteout is the safe option though.
Well why have two NH race meetings at mediocre tracks on the same day with low prizemoney? If a track cannot get 8 runners in their handicaps, then they should be removed from the fixture list for the next season. Lets cut this rubbish out, its good for no-one.
Oddy there were more G2 events than G3's last year in Ireland which is a most unusual situation and explains the poor quality of a lot of them.
Two wagers at Gowran Park. 1.55-Holy Water ran well lto at Listowel and just didn't see the race out, this looks an easier assignment and can take this at 2s. Willie always loves a winner at his local track and I'm backing his two runners Whiteout/Snag list to oblige at 9/4(PP)
