Although he could have chosen better examples to illustrate the decline of northern football than two former powerhouses of the northern game being challenged by those famous Home Counties teams of Carlisle and Sheffield Wednesday!
All this is an indictment of the SKY money and the fact we'd rather sign foreign players than develop our own talent through improved grass roots coaching. If you have homegrown players coming through at club level, then they are more than likely happy to represent clubs within that area - Use Downing and Barmby as examples. I also wouldn't want to live in London, I have turned down a couple of job offers that required re-locating to London. Hate the place.
It just made me smile! Knowing how fickle footballers are an honest mistake you made is probably quite close to the truth
Well, they do have partners who are a wife and girlfriend. Presumably that means that they cook and clean and are still keen on a bit of nookie.
I welcome the decline of Leeds Utd, both Sheffields, Liverpool, Newcastle and Sunderland, we were in their shadows for most of my life and they drew Hull youth to them like moths to a flame. This is what our 'Ghetto Of Excellence' flag was all about, celebrating our ascendancy. At least Neville mentions us. If all the foriegn players want to live in London how come only one London club has ever won the Champions League, once? (North 8, Midlands 3)
Of course if the definition of a foreign player is one not qualified to play for England then Liverpool had teams packed with foreigners and Man Utd had their fair share.

I reckon we should go old Yorkshire cricket stylee and say you have to be born in the East Riding to play for us.
Children today wouldn’t think of Leeds United as a great football club. - Neville Neither would adults.
Neville is indirectly blaming Sky for this so called north/south divide. He's probably not thought it through. Unless this is a veiled way in saying Sky's money is ruining the game. Personally, I believe it's cyclical. Clubs have good and bad periods.
Gary Neville is normally very good but this issue is bollox. IMO, the two Manchester clubs are still a bigger draw than Chelsea and Arsenal will ever be. Especially if Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger carry on the way they are doing.
Correct. Back in the 60's, 70's, 80's and most of the 90's it was TWS, Man Utd, Liverpool with a touch of Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa added to the mix. Arsenal did join the party at times.
