Whatever accusations people want to throw at Mo Farrah they can not question his guts. Brilliant performance
Trouble is there will probably be more! Difficult thing for Farah is that if he leaves this coach who the allegations are against then people will say "well he must have some doubts" etc. Anyway as you say an excellent performance and with our 2 girls leading the Heptathlon maybe we will have a successful Championships.
Bit of a shocker for the England rugby and cricket boys today! Former outclassed with a pretty much 1st team selection.. Work to be done clearly.
Lots of work to be done Mark but at least expectations will be reduced a bit. Our qualifying group is criminal FFS.
At close of play yesterday, some very one-sided games in the County Championship - the exception being Durham v Middlesex.
Sad to read of the passing of Brian Close today. But it got me thinking - has there ever been a sporting club that has had the levels of infighting that took place at Yorkshire CCC over the years? I love to read biographies of cricketers and every time it's a Yorkshire player you can guarantee there'll be a couple of chapters on rifts! Still, a man with a remarkably long career and amazing courage. RIP and thanks for the memories.
A good captain too from a tactical point of view. I saw my first Yorkshire game with my granddad in 1955 and have followed their fortunes ever since (including watching the current game at the Ageas Bowl). The number of players who left in a huff and the committee and regional structure of the county club held them back after the strong period in the 60s. It's good to see that there's a strong structure in place now and a youth scheme unparalleled anywhere. Yorkshire bluntness is obviously mellowing!
I almost hope they have to play in Belgium. There will be a big British contingent and it will not be that hostile. If it's Argentina we will have days of debate over the venue, moaning (quite justified) if it is outside Scotland and ludicrous over expectation / jingoism in the press.
Can Hampshire achieve a great escape tomorrow? On course for a win at Notts thanks to some pacy Fidel Edwards bowling. Just need Yorkshire to beat Sussex tomorrow. A generous declaration by Hampshire enabled Yorkshire to win at the Ageas Bowl so perhaps the favour will be returned tomorrow and Division 1 cricket will be on offer down here next season after all. Fingers crossed...
Escape duly achieved. It might be a good idea to start competing at the beginning of the season next year!
A few of us still left, Dan. I still think, Watford aside, there are few better ways to spend a day than the gentle evolution of a day's cricket with a pint or two of Ringwood ale!
I agree Theo, I have just become a member of Middlesex c.c.c. and I am looking forward to enjoying a few (hopefully sunny days) at Lords next season with a couple of beers to enhance the days play.
Are they still doing the tour of Lord's for new members before a MCCC match? Obviously, as it is before a match, there are certain areas you can't enter, but really enjoyed it.
