Ellewoods, what is your view on Dom Dwyer? Read a great article on the beeb I think about young English football cast offs going to American College and then making it to the MLS.
If you go to college here and play you will most likely get drafted so its fairly easy to at least get into the system that way. If I was English and wasnt cut out for any league beyond League 1 I would apply to an American University, get a scholarship and then play in the MLS afterwards. Free education, and you are a pro footballer. Its not a bad deal really. I have seen him at least a dozen or so times on TV I would say. He is a pretty good player for the MLS. He isnt very good as far as English standards go, I would say he is probably League 1? Maybe a League 1 squad player? There is no way he is championship quality. I am always amazed how many easy chances he misses or half chances he puts 20 rows up into the stands. He scores a fair number but its just terrible MLS defending that allows it. The defending in the MLS is quite poor, it has a lot to do with the fact that all the DPs are midfielders and forwards so there is a big class discrepancy between the back 4 and everyone else. Its how Altidore has 8 goals in 12 starts this season. The local team here just got an English reject in Marc Pelosi who was in the Liverpool development team and they have Jordan Stewart who played in England for a long time as well.
Recently watching Orlando, I was gutted Kaka didn't play, I was looking forward to seeing a player of his standard playing & see how he dominated the rest of MLS, but I had to put up with some decent football. It cost me about $40 odd for the ticket, the ticket itself was about $26, but then they added on some extra price for admin costs which rose to somewhere in the $30's, considering I did it all online & even had the ticket on my phone I find that a bit of a rip off, the last bit that took it into the $40 range was I clicked on some insurance thing by mistake & they charged me for it, which I'm still pissed off about due to the fact it was on my phone. That was for the supporters end & I saw most tickets a lot more,$140+, a lot of people in the areas that were more priced, but the life was more in the supporters end, although I was getting hammered by the time kick off came so can't be too hard on the West Stand equivalent. Overall value for money to watch the game, beer a bit expensive, players some good & some wouldn't make it in non league in England, Kyle for Orlando was one, he would make David Brown look like a world beater. A lot of money in the game right now & you can see the reason why, it looks like get the big names in to help out the US players & build a better base of players, may take some time, but I can see the lesser foreigners not being accepted later in a few years, although I think they'll be safe for about 10 years or so from what I've seen & read since I've been here.
