Thanks. Maybe he is playing the same trick we all would do. You wouldnt accept the 1st offer would you if you are sure they will come back and offer more? Or has there been plenty of offers made and this is the final offer take it or leave it? I understand you may not know and need to be careful what you say but im still confused by a lot of things
From Vital, who are very good at being spot on with things.... Vital Gas understands that a Consortium has made an approach to take over Bristol Rovers Football Club with a promise to invest at least 40 million into building a new Stadium at the UWE and further investment into the team It is thought that current Owner and Chairman, Nick Higgs has rejected this advance as it stands as the offer does not allow for repayment of losses that he incurred during his ownership. The Consortium is thought to be Birmingham based but currently the identities of the individuals involved are unknown.
JTS liking my post and not answering the questions make it even more confusing You are doing it now on purpose to give me a headache arnt you
So, when you read the second paragraph of the statement given out on Vital {Above} it would appear that Mr Higgs is not really acting with the best interests of the football club at heart but rather his own interests. Understandable I suppose in some respects but on the other hand anyone that takes on a football club and a lower league football club at that is never going to make a fortune through it whilst losses would have to be in the mindset from the beginning and with possibly some soul searching being done as to the reasons behind some of those losses. It must be a difficult time for the Chairman at present if all of these stories are true, a good viable working offer on the table to progress the club forward which I am sure is what everyone wants but with also the spectre of personal and professional loss hanging over it. Interesting times ahead and lets hope a positive outcome for all concerned.
If Vital gas is correct then some of the 40million they are investing in UWE they will recoup when the Memorial stadium is sold, so if NH is trying to recoup some of his money then that would surely be replaced to the consortium when said stadium is sold. It has often been reported in the press that NH has put his own money to keep rovers afloat, and from comments on this and the now defunct forum closed after the relegation season I don't think that the work and effort he has put in is always appreciated
Obviously vital hasn't mentioned all the details. They have said Higgs wants more money to replace his losses. They have said the consortium will spend £40 million on UWE. They didn't mention buying the Mem and the sale of it will be put towards the £40 million. It could be spending £40 million on building the UWE and Higgs can keep the Mem and the consortium pay Higgs rent until UWE is built. Then once we move into UWE, Higgs can sell the Mem for what they want and that would be more than their losses. Until the consortium comes out in public with full details we won't know what's going on. If the club comes out with a story, I don't know if I can trust what they say. The truth isn't always forthcoming is it with them, unfortunately.
From the Post.... Bristol Rovers have not been and are not currently in talks with a mystery consortium over the sale of the club, the Post has been told by club insiders. Supporter-run news website Vital Gas ran a story on Tuesday night suggesting that a consortium had made an approach to "take over" the club with a promise to provide £40 million to build a new stadium at UWE along with further investment to strengthen the squad in January. Rovers were contacted for comment on Tuesday night, but, as of yet, there has been no official word from the club on the report, which also went on to claim that chairman Nick Higgs had turned down the offer from a "Birmingham-based" consortium because it "does not allow for repayment of losses that he incurred during his ownership". There has so far been no confirmation as to how much, if anything, the group in question have offered to buy the club for and insiders have suggested that Higgs has been "angered" by the claims and is reluctant to "dignify the rumours with a response". The club are expected to maintain their silence on the matter until the Rovers chairman makes an appearance at the Supporters' Club Annual General Meeting, which is scheduled to take place at the Memorial Stadium on Thursday, October 8. The identities of the rumoured consortium, meanwhile, have also yet to be revealed by those who have placed the information of their existence into the public domain – although the Post has been told that the group may have been showing a longer-term interest in the club going back 18 months. The Post attempted to contact the consortium in question through a third-party, who claims to know who the group are, on Sunday. A response has yet to be forthcoming and the third-party was unavailable for comment when contacted again on Wednesday. http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/BRISTO...tory-27856409-detail/story.html#ixzz3maScfo9E
Typical Higgs! I can see 4 options he can take... 1: Deny it if its not true. Take pressure off yourself. Start earning trust back. 2: Deny it if true. Truth will come out (especially if the consortium comes forward) and pressure is on more than ever. Yet again proved to be a liar. Worse than Sainsbury breaking the deal with us. 3: Admit it before the consortium goes public. Try and get the upper hand and explain why no deal possible to persuade the fans he has best interest of club. That puts pressure on the consortium to put up or shut up. 4: Say nothing. Can't get accused of lying that way but longer the silence, the harder it will get. Basically he doesnt think us fans are worthy of an explaination.
....."not currently in talks".................. i.e. not at this very moment in time, but perhaps we were yesterday!
Bristol Rovers have not been and are not currently in talks with a mystery consortium over the sale of the club, the Post has been told by club insiders. Well the consortium wouldn't be a 'mystery' to them if they are or had been talking to them. The semantics are open to political interpretation!!
I think its pretty easy to read. If there is no consortium then the club state officially there is no bid. Job done. Higgs only talks when he is forced into it. All the rest of the time he just lies, as he did at the forum last year.
Yes, it's all rather disappointing isn't it and especially so after reading comments on here and over on gas guzzler, I really thought some radical changes were about to be announced, oh well, Morecambe away on Saturday !
As the thread says 'watch this space' this will not go away - it may have moved behind the scenes but believe me the offer is massive and its serious - but like buying a house it rarely runs smoothly or quickly - UTG
Wow, thanks Jon. I was thinking as the press seemed to have washed their hands with it and those involved in the consortium haven't made themselves known, I thought where Higgs been playing hardball, the consortium have dropped their interest. Going by your post, it seems quite the opposite!
