@JustGiving: Francis ran to all 20 Premier League grounds - over 1,000 miles in total - finishing up at his home club, @SouthamptonFC. #JGAwards

@JustGiving: He ran over 50 miles a day on average, raising more than £185,000 for @CR_UK. #JGAwards

Great effort, well done Franny. My nephew just ran the Great North Run for same charity and raised a few hundred pounds.

He is the type of person that the word "Hero" was invented for. Well done Franny, recognition in the New Year's Honour's List is the very least that you deserve.

An amazing feat that should have had miles more coverage from the main stream media.

Absolutely to both. In media terms it almost passed by unnoticed, which is disgusting, in all honesty.

This really was, as you say, an amazing feat. Franny is not a young lad any longer and to average 50 miles a day and complete 1000 miles is sensational. It is up there with Ian Bothams efforts for charity, and so disappointing that it didnt receive more coverage. I wonder if Saints PR dept could have done more to highlight the event ?

I suppose it's all about the bloody cult of the celebrity again isn't it. Franny's achievement was certainly up there with anything Ian Botham did, but Benali is only a star to the fans of a certain little South Coast football club. In my view this was one of the greatest ever charity fundraising efforts, and it should have been on national TV, at least on a weekly roundup basis. The scenes at the Newcastle game last year, when he arrived at St. Mary's, were fantastic, and yet were hardly mentioned, even on MOTD. The fact that they only showed the last few passes of the 43 leading to our last goal, compared to the hullabaloo over Man U's move last week, tells you the story in a nutshell.

I remember a game last season (was it Newcastle?) where we were walking along Britannia Road and you were on the phone to someone and you were following Franny's progress as he was on the final leg to St Mary's. Don't you know him quite well or you know someone who knows him well? Anyway what a legend (Franny not you, sorry :)) and glad he's reconnected with the club after all the **** with Cortese.

Yes, I know someone who knows him and I spoke to him while he was doing the run.
