3.45 Goodwood - BASEM - 6/4 As many are aware am a huge fan of the horse!Missed the 7/4 but still a decent price , this looks very straight forward tomorrow for him. Was a very decent 3rd to Mondaliste in a group 3 lto and that form is strong! Was taken out of Saturdays Cambridgeshire for this and altho this is over 1m2f which he has yet to prove his stamina, it should be no problem- his brother won the champion stakes over this distance so should be fine tomorrow! And can see him going off odds on tomorrow !!
Tis Boily, not going steaming in,think the hcapper has being lenient after win at Listowel on Friday so should be there abouts.
The Daily Thread up 12 hours and no mention of First Mohican ??? I'm very worried about our very own SBC right now
I am afraid I am going against woolcombe this evening as although Basem looks a decent horse I fancy one against him tomorrow. As for our old friend First Mohican I think he has a lot going for him tomorrow but fitness will need taking on trust. Is this a warm up for his hurdling campaign? or a genuine attempt to win another flat race? if it is the latter he has the ability to be competitive in this race. Goodwood 3.45 Hors de Combat 5-1 Whilst I fully respect Basem at the prices I must look elsewhere and Hors de Combat looks a cracking bet with a small saver on the forcast with Basem as well. The reason for the bet is two fold, firstly they step him up in trip for the first time tomorrow and I feel the horse has been crying out for this, secondly whilst Basem and Battalion are very much dipping their toe into listed and Group class action the selection has been racing lately in Group 3-2-3-1. I am as confident as you can be against a 5-4 shot which is why I have taken a reverse forecast as I cannot see these two not filling the first two places. Kempton 5.20 Key on Kodiac 6-1 (NON Runner) Were this horse drawn better I would be all over it but as it is a bit of caution must prevail. I am still backing it however as I feel if William Buick gets a position early this horse is better than a class 6 handicapper and I think he will go very close tomorrow.
Morning all. I like the look of David Pipe's three runners at Perth today. The trainer is flying at the moment and has a great record at the track. At Goodwood I'll be backing Art Echo in the 2pm and Good run in the 2.30.
I do think if Basem is to get beat it will by this horse! He is geniunley the only real proven group horse in the field which can't be dismissed but feel Basem who has the head gear on too for he first time will have to much
4.20 Goodwood - Notarised -5/1 Interesting that MJ has two fancied runners in this! But I fancy Notarised he has run his best races the last twice here and a drop down in trip looks to be his ideal
Morning campers .. .I'm following ART ECHO and IMPULSIVE AMERICAN (remember it was a winner tipped up by SBC 2 weeks ago ) ... small stakes win double for interest .. What could possibly go wrong .. ???
I think it was old girl, Princess Newmarket, who was the great advocate of First Mohican in the days when he was with Sir Henry. Really looked a decent prospect back then. Since he’s been transferred to the county hasn’t really reached those heights for Alan King although he has won over hurdles and been Listed and Group placed. First Mohican will though, of course, always be popular on the forum as he’s owned by our second favourite owner, dear old Mr Ponsonby.
His last two runs on the level haven't been too bad even, even though 5th the last day he was only beaten 2.31 lengths and only 3 lengths beforehand. I wouldn't be suprised if he got involved today off 100 again.
My regular readers will recall being Ebullient with a capital ‘E’ when I tipped Impulsive American to win at Chepstow 12 days and I see he’s out again today competing in the sphere that those old rogues purchased him for – leaping over sticks whilst being slapped on the rump by Tom Scudamore (or to give it it’s technical term – hurdling, I say, hurdling). If someone held a gun to my head, although I’m sure no-one would ever want to do that, I’d say Impulsive American (4.40 Perth) was the most likely winner this afternoon but I really don’t like his current odds (7/2 the very best) and will probably be leaving him alone – I think he should be a couple of points bigger than he actually is. This 3YO heat really does look well above average given that the Ferguson horse was a very nice winner on his sole hurdling appearance (does have a penalty for that though), Persiflage ran a very good race on debut (subsequently was very poor though ) and the shrewd Gord Elliott hasn’t brought him across the Water for nowt and Lucinda Russell’s animal was a nice winner at Bath on his last racecourse appearance. You are, of course, also guessing how any horse will actually fare on its hurdling bow – although I’m sure those old rogues have prepped him more than adequately by working him, schooling him and opening the ‘magic fridge’. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more... All things considered I really would want bigger than 7/2 re his chances here. Good luck all.
A great shame that the ground is soft at Goodwood for today’s meeting; however, I would advise staying away from the short-priced Basem in the Listed Race at 3:45. He ran his worst race of the season on his last visit to Sussex as the track did not seem to suit him plus he has never won over further than a mile. Hopefully there is a drying wind in Cambridgeshire/Suffolk for tomorrow’s Newmarket meeting...
Interesting you should mention Persiflage Sir Barney, since your posts often exhibit this quality (according to Google, Persiflage = light and slightly contemptuous mockery or banter).
