I can at least see the logic in that. He ****ed up by having Martina and Yoshida left and right back. Limited full backs and two out and out DMs was something he wanted to escape from with that switch.
Agree that Koeman certainly has to shoulder much of the responsibility; his adjustments seem to have backfired in a big way. However, there's also a worrying amount of average players in the squad at the moment...hopefully the return of the likes of Clasie/Bertrand will improve that, but we need the ability to improve the attack mid-match through some avenue that isn't 'go 4-2-4'. On the bright side, I'm fairly sure Brendan Rodgers has managed his final match at Anfield.
When does the season end? Feel we are in for a hard season in the lower half of the table. I feel Saints are at the lowest level since returning to the Premiership in 2012 so we need to forget about winning cups for the moment and stay clear of the relegation zone which I think will be very competitive this year with the 18th placed team needing 40 points, a higher than normal requirement.
Forget the second goal. The key moments in this match were Pelle missing that second chance and The offside. We can do something about the first. We can't about the second and Look at Man U 2 season in row. They score from virtually every decent chance!!! At this level (or the level we aspire to) we need a striker that buries virtually every good chance. 2-0 we would have won that. Fine margins I know and hard to criticise a player that after 90+ minutes has scored 2 but any player in his position would have scored the first. The 2nd was after the game had gone and only gave hope. One thing though. First time Prowsey has actually delivered that Beckham'esque' ball and hope ti happens a lot lot more.
Good points? 1:Wanyama and Romeu look good playing next to each other. 2: Targett played well until the injury which was a shame. 3: Pelle played brilliantly. Knocked the ball down for others. Held the ball up and scored twice. 4: Prowse's crosses were actually good. 5: umm?
We won't be near the relegation zone. Have people forgotten about Clasie and Bertrand? We have got more than enough quality to get and stay in midtable at least.
Fine margins indeed .....offside and a piss poor back pass gifted Utd 3 points today. If Pelle had slotted home for his 2nd in the first half we would have been home and dry.
Teams can appear safe in midtable in January or February and then bomb. Newcastle only just avoided the clutches of relegation last season having looked comfortable in there for much of the season. Teams in the relegation zone stretch all the way up to about 9th in January and as they pass 40 points the numbers reduce.
Don't think we're in danger of getting relegated. Do think we might spend some time in the drop zone over the next few weeks, however. Seems like the search for a balanced and consistent XI may take some time.
Didn't fight for the wings and sat off and allowed them to dictate the game, that was the mistake. Pellè starved of service during the core of the game. When he had service, two goals and hit the woodwork. Sadio ran himself into the ground but it didn't happen. Fonte, Yoshida et al had a bad day.
But then you could twist what you said around? We could suddenly click and win 5 games in a row. We aren't a bad team we just aren't getting that bit of luck to turn a draw into a win. Today was only our second loss. Your example of Newcastle is poor as they have looked bad the last few seasons.
I don't think there is a chance of hell of us even being close to relegation however I am greedy, selfish and want us to be continuing our rubbing shoulders stuff.
Missed opportunity there to get something at home, but no chance of relegation (if any are worried). We are a good side and I'm sure we will get mid-table at the least. We can get clean sheets and can score....now if only we can combine those characteristics.
