@tancredipalmeri: For the rest of the season, Italy need the same amounts of wins of English clubs + 1 draw more than them,to finally overtake them in ranking

@richardajkeys: If @tancredipalmeri is right - and he usually is - P Lge could very well lose a C Lge place this season.

Not surprising really. Poor performances in recent years in the competition have lead to this. Gone have the days of three of the semi finalists being from the PL.

Good. The English and in fact Jock teams have been an embarrassment recently.

If it does happen, it won't affect the 16/17 CL. They'll lose a spot in the 17/18 competition.

So, we go up this season, consolidate the season after and finish 4th in 2017/18. Great.

Im surprised they've not created some sort of play offs for the fourth CL spot already in the PL seeing how successful the play offs in the FL have been. 4th vs 7th and 5th vs 6th and a final at Wembley for the spot and a trophy (anything to over expose the league even more).

In that event perhaps we could sue Arsenal, Man City, Man U, etc.

Very true – if it was something like a seeded play off between 4th, 5th, 6th and the FA Cup Winners (or 7th place if they’re already sorted) it’d definitely generate wedges of money based cash whilst also boosting the FA Cup whilst not diminishing (too much anyway) final league positions.

Does everything have to be about money? The PL is already easily the richest league and about to get a lot richer.

Except UEFA decide how CL places are decided so it would never happen.

Throw a % of the money their way and they'll soon accept it and propose it in the other leagues too.

The thing is we have 4 teams in the CL, Italy lost Lazio in the qualifying rounds so they've dropped into the Europa League. I read this last season that this might happen, but the points offered are more for the CL over the EL, we didn't help by not making the group stages last season.
It's based overall on how the teams from that country do in Europe not just CL!

Doubt if they will dilute their product, to be honest. Calling it the Champions League is a stretch as it is anyway.

Don’t they have a similar play-off system in the Dutch League?

I was being les flippant with regard to the cash but in terms of more football versus exciting variable – I think it’d work work.
