Newcastle United – Watford The Hornets travel north to visit the Premier League’s current worst performing team. Helped by their first win of the season the travelling Watford team should be confident of returning to WD22 with something from this game, even if Newcastle United will be looking for their first win of the season, and their fifth win since Alan Pardew left. On the plus side, for the visitors, Newcastle United have not scored in four Premier League matches, against Watford’s one goal. So we are not looking at a high scoring encounter here. Newcastle on the other hand have won their last three matches against Watford when playing in St James’ Park. Newcastle United: team news With Aleksandar Mitrovic suspended Papiss Cisse may continue al though Siem de Jong could also be a better option further forward. Steve McClaren requires his summer signings Georginio Wijnaldum and Florian Thauvin to settle quickly. Ayoze Perez played well at West Ham United on Monday when he appeared as a substitute and could start as a replacement for Vurnon Anita with Newcastle needing a win to kick start their season. Newcastle have long term injuries to Emamanuel Riviere, Sylvain Mareaux and Paul Dummett with Curtis Good, Steven Taylor and Michael Williamson all doubtful for inclusion in the match day squad Watford: team news Quique Flores is unlikely to make unforced changes to his side after winning their first match of this season one week ago, somewhat shocking unbeaten Swansea in the process (I stole this bit from a website as it is funny). Valon Behrami begins a 3-game suspension after being sent off against Swansea City, with Adlene Guedioura one of those in line for a start having returned to the club and joined on a permanent deal on the last day of the transfer window. Victor Ibarbo and Obbi Oulare are likely to have to wait for their chance after Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo looked back to their best last saturday. Lloyd Doyley is training again after his neck problem and may play with the under 21 squad(!) as an overage player, but Joel Ekstand is a very long way from match fitness. Miguel Britos is the other player in the naughty corner and will miss this game and the next also. Probable teams Top players by statistic History: The last league meetings Predition Newcastle sit in last place and despite a number of big money signings over the summer the team isn't looking much stronger than last season, though they will need time to settle Watford have had a complete overhaul of personnel but been solid in the most part, losing just one of their first 5 league matches, for which new manager Quique Flores deserves credit. The Magpies fans are happier than they were at the end of last seaosn but will still need some convincing that this won't be another relegation battle after a slow start to the season and the hosts are unlikely to have it easy against Watford Newcastle United 0 – 1 Watford
Thank you for such a fine thread ak. The three points would certainly stop a few critics believing that we should be at the bottom of the league.
I'm feeling optimistic for the Newcastle game ....( probably means we will lose 3.0 ) . Have watched the 3 home games this season ..we do not look out of place in the Premier . With Newcastle's current woes , we should be beating them ..although a point would be acceptable .
Great thread, thanks AK - I like the statistics part. Now The Magpies away, A point would be welcome, but given Newcastle´s recent form you never know, all 3 could be taken and that would be a great result. I just hope Deeney can score, might take a bit of weight off his shoulders.
Deeney will score goals in the prem . He looked much more comfortable in his deeper role against Swansea . Flores seems to like Deeney ..I certainly rate Flores and think given time he will bring the best out of Troy . We are truly blessed as Hornet fans ..we have great owners , a vastly experienced head coach and this is by far the strongest ever Watford squad ...real strength , quality and experience in depth . onwards and upwards .
Lawro's a hater - we could be playing a team of one legged, blind goats and he would still say we'd be lucky to get a draw.
And Merson's gone for 2-1 (and he got last week's result completely wrong). I'm going to go for 1-1. Can't see us scoring more than 1 or letting in more than 1.
Nice one AK, if I knew how to give you a rating, I would apply my usual 5*'s. Going for a Watford 2-1 win and the start of a nice little run which will shut the tossers like Lawro and Linneker up.
Great match preview AK. Like an interesting PowerPoint presentation with workable statistics - and I am sure we have all fallen asleep at meetings during the turgid ones. I am going for a 2-1 win with Deeney losing his Premier League virginity.
Great thread... Newcastle are in disarray and missing players... we could smash and grab this one I am going and there are three of us this time
I really think we have a good chance here but doesn't that always bring a comeuppance in football? Also hoping Williamson is fit so he can give a goal away, then get sent off for a trip with the penalty scored and we run out 0-2 winners with him being seen as the complete t*ss** he is!
please log in to view this image Roger East from Wiltshire will be the man in the middle and this will be his first Premier League match of the season. The Wiltshire official has taken charge of three games this season, all of which coming in The Football League and has handed out 11 yellow cards and 1 red. Fab thread Ak, thank you! Sadly will be missing this one so any advice on streaming will be greatly appreciated! I think we will miss Behrami but can't see anything but a Watford win (as usual) so I shall be going with my 1-3 as ever and hoping Deeney gets on the score sheet. Expecting a noisy Watford crowd to be heard by the team, depite their position near Jupiter!
morning all and safe travels to those of you making the pilgrimage today. Interesting to see that the bookmakers have us at a shorter price than WBA away at Villaand the same price as Leicester at Stoke. It is not an exact science but given we were favourites to go down it shows that those with their finger on the pulse are taking notice of us.
