http://www.london24.com/sport/footb...n_was_at_fault_for_blackburn_opener_1_4236647 Has anyone seen a video of the incident...but I think this could be handled with a little more tact whatever it shows... He should have given his keeper some support....." Not sure...I have seen fouls on the keeper like this given etc" He made a mistake...is quite a brutal statement for a kid....there was no follow-up..."but he kept us in the match with a great stop from Rhodes". CR comes over as quite astraight talker...quite the opposite to smooth old Arry....like it at the moment...I hope the team are happy with this style
I'm more worried by his other comment "it's not as though we are not being torn apart tactically". Sorry Chris but that's exactly what happened in the first half. We simply had no idea how to counter Blackburn's tactics of harrying us mercilessly and for sure the two sitting midfielders (Henry and Toszer) were too deep to get to grips with the problem (not to mention both were ****e). We were able to salvage a point by upping the pace in the second half but the fact that both these two finished the match while Faurlin stewed on the bench indicates no lessons were learnt. No foul on Smithies IMO but a free would be given 99 times out of 100 in that situation.
I have watched it a few dozen times now. I think it was a foul, I didn't at the time. Smithes gets both his hands on the ball (clearest at 0.05), and the Rovers player is jumping into him and as they come down the Rovers player wrenches/seperates Smithes from the ball.As he had both hands on the ball, it is a foul....I admit it was a hard one to spot, and still not sure. However in most cases these are given in favour of the goalie, the ref however was an officious prat (not particularly related to this incident but more to others especially Austins boots, the hand ball, the over sensitivity to the Rovers holding their heads opportunity....and was giving us nothing. This luck will come around again...when we really need it
With Beth clear foul to me he jumps and twists into the keeper It's a wild centre half jump and makes clear contact to the keeper It's also an error as any keeper should be meeting that ball not waiting for it to land in his hands It needed a punch anyhow imo It was a foul imo but not given The keeper ended up off the bloody pitch what took him there?
At first it looked like a mistake from Smithies. Looking at it again, I am now convinced that it's a foul. The lad headed the ball out of Smithies' hands.
Having just watched I have no idea if it was a foul. At the time nobody in the area around me in KU thought it was. we would have been fuming if that had been disallowed if we had scored it. The main thing in this thread though is Ramsey blamed Smithies but refused to blame Green on Saturday. That certainly ain't cinsistency!
Much prefer Redknapp's style. This Ramsey bloke is a cod. He hasn't a notion as to what he's banging on about. And he's boring as sin when he talks too
No way swordster... You want spin and platitudes... and sound bites ....over saying it like it is..even if it is heavy.. No way
It's not particularly strong goalkeeping but in 2015 you see that given as a foul far more often than not. A bit like Helguson's winner at Palace in Warnock's promotion season.
I also think it's a foul. I'm all for players being able to challenge the keeper but you can't throw your whole body weight horizontally into a keeper, moving him 2 or 3 metres from where he was and get away with it. Well... apparently you can get away with it.
