as there were no reports of arrests or anything in the press to complain about the behaviour of leeds united fans, then it just sounds like a bit of banter with someone being offended.

Come on, since when are all little fights reported in the local press.

I've been going out round York for 25 Years and seen loads of trouble but it doesn't make our local paper, and believe me they really struggle for stories.

I stated that the majority of Leeds fans were brilliant, good banter (without the aggression) and mixed with the other supporters. It's this tiny minority that I don't understand and maybe there are psychological reasons why they need to be aggressive, but I aint a psychologist so don't understand why.

its not the point, if you go to a game you expect to have some fun, i dont know the extent of the situation as i was not there but it doesnt seem to bad just to be singing some songs that may offend i doubt they did but lets use the word may, its part of the game whether you like it or not

The songs were not that offensive, I think I said that in the initial post, it was the fact they annoyed everyone around them by being drunk, irritating, aggressive and appearing quite happy to have a go with anyone who didn't enjoy their fun. I come from Glasgow and grew up with the Rangers and Celtic stuff, we are thankfully nowhere near their level, but they did intimidate people and there was a feeling of risk being near them and I felt it could blow up at any time, so whilst I appreciate you go to games and there will be good banter and banter you don't like, do you need to feel threatened as well?

no i dont think you should feel threatened, as i say i dont really knwo the full story just what you have said, its hard to go on just that, would've needed to be there but i do think that you need to have the fun, the banter and the singing to create an atmosphere at grounds and maybe they were to far, there is a line but i still think that its all in a merry spirit

You keep responding. You state you don't care but can't help respond to every response to your own posts. Anyway, I have nowt against you, I have no idea who you are, so fair play for standing your ground, I don't agree with you on today's stuff, perhaps I will agree with you on another subject, perhaps that is what "banter" should be.
Sorry if that sounds patronising, it is not intended that way.

Josh...I have been in many of those situations at many grounds and if you know how to handle situations and people then there is no need to feel threatened....and thats coming from a girl!

i guess some people find it scary but maybe they are in the wrong place

no i dont find it scary, i have also been in the situation as well at a few games and other places as well, i have always been able to handle the situation but i can se that if people are getting violent which it does not appear these were, its not really promoting leeds united's fans very well and also people may find that situation a little bit threatening and uneasy

it boils down to a much bigger question which i aint getting into on here........football hooliganism is a subject i find fascinating and can often be connected with the economic climate.....frustration outlet for the working class masses

maybe on some levels but i dont think the general public who are there to be watching a game and not interested should have to deal with it but at the same time they are going somewhere where thousands of people are going and getting drunk so therefore people also need to be able to tolerate it to certain extent as well

if you put 30,000 plus .mainly blokes, into an confined space, after consuming alcohol, whos teams are playing each other you have to expect a certain feeling in the air

i love that feeling, i love the craziness

occasionally it boils over and to take that out of the game would ruin it

my opinion, like it or not

I love it when its abit edgy, it what makes football what it is and why no other sport compares globally.

Am not into the fighting, but if it kicks off, it kicks off.

You can go to any village in the country and you will see the same behaviour. Not a football thing, a social thing.

Boab - completely agree mate. I'm Scottish, born in Edinburgh, grew up there, and proud to be a Scot, but I will always support Leeds. My dad used to drive me down to ER regularly to watch the team when I was growing up and I will always be a Leeds fan. I support the Scottish national side, but Leeds comes first, without a doubt. I don't have a problem with the English football team (can't say the same of the rugby side), but Leeds is my club, no question.

As far as those fans you mentioned are concerned, they should get a grip. That's not our club, although sadly every team has their burdens to bear.

I have to disagree with you on that, I'd agree there is more of a bond with the club, not surprising really considering it is their home club, but the club itself is global and I think all clubs see themselves as this now, it needs to be global for survival. The passion doesn't change just because you come from the home town/city, people are passionate about the club no matter where they come from. As I said, I don't support Leeds as a city or Yorkshire, I support Leeds United FC and have massive knowledge and experience of my time supporting the club.
