Big story in the Times that Austin will refuse to sign a new 3 year contract and will go oop North in a 'cut price' deal in January. McLaren has said that they are still interested, and Ramsey that the club still needs to work on its finances and 'every player has his price'. I believe the first bit, think the second depends on where Newcastle are in the table come January. We hear a lot of 'he doesn't want to go up North', but where did he actually say this?
Agreed, they'd want to be mid table at worst for Charlie to go there. He's already stated that he wants to go only to a 'established / settled' club. If he wanted uncertainty, he can stay with us!
Transfer gossip: Newcastle tipped to offer £6m for QPR star 14/09/2015 A round-up of the latest transfer speculation involving QPR… There continues to be much speculation over the future of Charlie Austin. Newcastle plan to offer QPR £6m for the striker when the transfer window re-opens in January, the Daily Telegraph claim. A number of clubs are monitoring Austin’s situation as he is in the final year of his contract and will potentially be available on a free transfer at the end of the season. And there is more speculation that Newcastle will target him after Magpies boss Steve McClaren told Sky Sports that Austin is “on the radar”. please log in to view this image Austin has scored five goals for QPR already this season A number of today’s newspapers therefore suggest that Austin, 26, could be on his way to St James’ Park. The Telegraph say Newcastle will make an offer to QPR, who wanted £15m for him during the summer transfer window. And once again it is claimed that Austin’s previous knee problem was a factor in Rangers’ asking price not being met
... Although if we don't sort out the team i can see him going. Loyalty in football only last a short time.
This is what I can't stand, the bloody transfer window is now SHUT. Newspapers write about the weather I'm sure every fan from every club is not interested in the window until January comes round
No doubt he will want to go if we are struggling as I think we may. Again will get a clear picture in 6 games to what we can do
We're hoping Charlie scores a bunch of goals for us between now and January to hopefully give us a chance of a promotion run in the home stretch of the season. So given we could have recently taken £12m for him, these next 4-5 months are costing us £6m + salary. If he doesn't renew his contract, by June he'll be off on a free, so a prolific goal scoring resource with a declining valuation.
A big part of the reason he didn't go is he was set on staying in the area he lives. Don't see why this would have changed. If his contract runs out he'll have at least 15 Prem clubs keen to take him on a free with a substantial bonus for him. Would be a bit nuts to go to one of the league's worst teams at the other end of the country for the sake of getting an extra 15 Prem games under his belt. There's absolutely no guarantee they'll be a Prem club next year.
where did you get this 'he doesn't want to move house' stuff from Wats? I doubt it would be true if United, City, Liverpool, Everton or God forbid, a really massive club like LEEDS came in for him.
I read it somewhere ages ago and I'm pretty sure there was a quote from him to that effect. Can't remember what the source was. I don't doubt if a really big club came in for him he'd want to move but it makes financial sense for him to stay put and get a big bonus for joining someone as a free agent. It really would surprise me if clubs haven't discussed this with his agent already. He came across as non-plussed about leaving in this window- was at the Reading festival the day before the window closed when you'd think he'd be at home waiting for the phone to ring if he was expecting to go anywhere. Of course, if Leeds are interested there's little anyone can do.
It gets me that if we were in Newcastle's position (as we have been) we would be looking at being charged over the odds to get a striker in - even if that player had only 6 months left on his contract.
If Ashley hadn't been so cheap, he could have had Charlie now scoring goals against West Ham. Currently they are 2-0 down, with 2 goals from Payet, who looks very good - last one from Newcastle's own free kick leading to a Victor Moses run, his shot off the crossbar which Payet dispatched into the net on the volley.
Who is this Payet? He looks a good player. We need Newcastle to start scoring some goals so that they keep their filthy paws off Austin. What's happened to Cisse, he's gone right off the boil?
I argue that we actually don't, if they look like being in a relegation scrap come January then there is no way Austin would go there!
He seems to be into everything - play maker, goal scorer, defensive tackling. Cissé has really gone off the boil, he had a good spell last season when he saved Pardew's bacon that enabled him to depart at a time of his choosing. Payet hails from the island of Réunion where that possible MH370 wreckage was found. Seems like a real steal for around £11 million, if he keeps playing like this he deserves a French call up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimitri_Payet
