Qwop or Joe would be the ones to tell you mate. I know some decent pubs that serve an assortment of crisps but I reckon the old lady would have your balls off with that effort.
If you want to be in the city itself I'd consider The Ivy at the Grange Hotel. If you don't mind traveling The Black Swan at Oldstead is 20 minutes out and said to be incredible.
For afternoon or evening? I'll assume the evening. The Blue Bicycle is my go to place for the ladies. What sort of cuisine do you both like?
Try the Golden Fleece, just across the road from the Shambles. One of the oldest pubs in York, haunted apparently. Meals are decent, if you can get a table. http://www.thegoldenfleeceyork.co.uk
Depends what sort of food you're into. Load of decent restaurants down the stretch that the Blue Bicycle is on including a "posh" Indian (Mumbai Lounge) that's excellent and a great Thai. Personally don't rate the Blue Bicycle and can't work out where their reputation comes from but each to their own.
well if you want fine dining check the Ivy menu. There's a few triple and double rosettes places, Blue bicycle, The Piano, Nineteen. They'll have online menus so pick the one with the food you fancy most.
Star Inn the City or Judges Lodgings if you can get a table. Otherwise Delrios is the best Italien / Sardinian .....
The Black Swan is good for a decent scran. Canny sized portions as well. For more upmarket the Blue Bicycle requires a second mortgage but is ace. If you want Fish, The Loch Fyne is the place to go and if you want an Indians Akbars is good. The Whippet Inn is brill for steaks but needs booking usually at least a week in advance
Really?? I never thought it was that great personally. Froggy, I'd disregard everything I've said, I know nowt
The Black Swan at Oldstead. Bout 20 minutes out of York. Not the Black Swan in York. https://sites.google.com/site/newblackswanwebsite/
