It was interesting to hear Phil Neville's comments about Liverpool this week. Whilst there is no love lost as far as he is concerned, it was interesting to see that his comments about Sterling needing to leave Anfield to achieve better things as the set up at Liverpool was not perceived to be good enough. Nice to see Liverpool player being touted for a move by former pros in order to better their careers as opposed to Southampton ones. None of our former players from last season have transformed the performance of their new employers. Liverpool's woes are particularly amusing.

There have been few things more satisfying in football than the demise of Liverpool's dominance from their peak in the 1970's and 80's and their failed endeavours to become a great club once more. It is funny to think that there is now a whole generation who have no recollection of Liverpool being a dominant force in the game. There was an interesting review of a book about the club's fortunes in this month's "WSC" (the book was called"The men in white suits" where ex-players comment on the old-fashioned training techniques which persisted in the 1990's as the likes of Wenger and Ferguson transformed the sport. I would also recommend "The nowhere men" by Michael Calvin which charts the failings of the Damien Commelli regime and how they imploded after relying on statistical data to assess players. There is quite a bit about Rodgers in this book as well, from recollection.

I think it is ironic that Rodgers being keen to snap up Rickie Lambert at a time when he was being touted as a tactical and technical genius and his ultimate ability to transform one of the most potent goal-scorers of the last ten years in to a bit part player within a team that did not know how to employ his services to proper effect.

Brendan Rodgers: "Look at Tottenham. If you spend more than £100 million, you expect to be challenging for the league."

The only thing that will stop me from laughing tears of joy and celebrating this clueless loon being sacked will be the realisation that he will all too soon be appointed to ruin a club that I do respect...............meaning just about the rest of the PL and football league (he won't be offered a job at the few I don't like anyway)
