I've not really seen him play but he seems a decent option. Like stated above I think Baines is the only player from England that I'd take and I can't see him coming or us spending the amount being quoted for him. It's certainly a position we need though so if he is the best the DC has recomended and if it's for the £10mil being quoted then I'd take him.

I don't believe we need any other CB's as we already have Agger, Carragher, Skrtel, The Greek, Wilson & Kelly who can all play there.

I hate to rain on your parade, hash, but it's now Monday, and not a sausage! It's a shame because I'd like him too.

I think its kind of interesting to note that the minute a player in france is linked its commolli deciding who we buy... and if they are in england its dalglish.

I don't buy that opinion myself.

If we get a full back i think the "urgency" signings is much less/ I agree that we need better centre half and striker cover but unitl the right players are available we could wait (eg january)

If you look at the situation now we can get by at CB but have a distinct lack of pace, however there are about 6 kids including kelly who can play there.

Up top we have kuyt and n'dog and thats not good if carroll gets injured.... suarez less so as cole and kuyt, maxi and downing all can cover...... realistically unless we say sell cole and maybe aquilani we are not going to bring in a forward.

It wasn't going to happen over the weekend anyway, Kenny and Comolli don't do weekend deals <laugh>

Firstly; Comolli is pretty well versed in English talent aswell; he did a fair share of scouting english talent at Spurs if I'm not mistaken so I wouldn't be surprised if he's had as big a say in the recent signings as Dalglish.

Secondly; I think Kenny trusts Comolli's judgement. Comolli's job is to shortlist players in positions Kenny feels we need strengthening. Kenny picks the players, Comolli contacts the player and sorts out of a contract. Comolli will be just an aid to Kenny in terms of transfers.

To be honest I think we're fine in CB; the kids we have at that position are class and I personally can't wait until they get a proper run out.

Striker cover is something we need; but more importantly it has to be a different type of striker to the ones we already have. We have a skillful (Suarez), an Aerial (Andy), a pace (Ngog) so we could do with a superb finisher now...

It's not a case of how many CB's we have, it's more a case of the CB's we have aren't good/reliable enough.

Soto, Wilson, Kelly - good enough? Wilson and Kelly have the potential to be in the future but would you play them at CB now?

Agger - Made of glass, I'll eat my hat if he stays injury free before halloween!

Carra - not getting any younger

This is why I see a new CB as a priority

That's because I don't really have a problem with him, he played quite well under Kenny in the second half of the season.

Agreed - just because we have cover for positions doesn't mean that it's adequate. Soto is simply not good enough. I have not seen anything which suggests Wilson is capable which is a shame. Kelly and Ayala are probs the best bets but that doesn't mean we should rush them in.

We still need experienced defenders to look after the likes of Flanno, Robinson, Kelly and Ayala. The only person who can do that is Carragher and he isn't getting younger. Agger will not play 30 games this season and Skrtel needs a leader next to him.

Agger will probably play 15-20 games this season, and when he plays he's a brilliant defender.

Carragher will more than likely play 30 games this season, and he offers great experience and can organise the defence brilliantly.

Kelly, Ayala and Wisdom are fantastic defenders in my opinion. Kelly was thrown into the RB when he's a CB, so surely he'll be able to cope with the CB position; Ayala has been on loan for the last season. Wisdom will be immense when he comes up. When Wilson gets a chance I believe he'll do well - perhaps he needs loan time at the moment though.

Skrtel is a reliable CB who we know can play all season, not to mention the fact that he has years of experience too.

All in all, I think we're set for CBs.

Sorry Ze, I disagree.
I still think we're short of experienced strength in depth at CB. I've brought this up before and been shot down, but I think an injury or suspension or two could put us in a precarious position.
Most of this has already been said but here goes: Carra is immense but knocking on; Soto is a great character and strong presence but too slow and old; Skrtel has looked good recently but has shown frailties in the past; Agger is a quality player but trying to predict how many games he'll play is pointless- experience shows that he is injury prone and we have to anticipate the worst in order to deal with it. Of the younger ones, only Kelly has been really convincing so far and he's been playing RB. I expect and hope the others to be brought on but they're still unknown quantities and we can't be sure. We need the strong backing like that we're developing in midfield to compete at the top.

Another point - we lack ball playing defenders. The only CB's we have that can play the ball are Agger, Ayala and Wilson.

Ayala and Wilson are both youngsters so I don't think they will feature that heavily this season and Agger as we said before won't play too many games this season.

I think we need a real classy defender who can bring the ball out of defence. Its a shame we didn't get that Zapata fella.

this is what the french media are saying: Lyon have accepted a 17 million euros 'proposal' from Liverpool for LB Cissokho, the player and his agent will fly out as soon as tomorrow to hold direct talks with Liverpool Director of Football Comolli.

<laugh> sorry, previous poster mentioned Zapata so I assumed you were talking about him.

€17m? I thought the figures banging around were for about €10m last week. Rumours about City offering over £20m going about also but not buying it when they've just gotten Clichy

So bascially you agree with me.... my point was i don't by the opinion stated that comolli is deciding who to buy and this left full is his idea totally. I beleive like you that comolli is fully in charge of buying players and is in agreement with kenny on names. I don't see any reason to suspect kenny is unhappy with anything right now as the OP would perhaps suggest.....

I don't necessarally agree or disagree at CB with you. Yes the kids have a lot of potential I just feel we lack a dominant CB like hyypia was and also lack pace... and worse agger is seriously injury prone. I think if we got nobody this summer it'd not be disasterous for us but we need to look for someone top drawer very shortly. (oh and for me kelly to play beside that person)

I don't rate n'gog at all, don't see him as that pacey either. on the other hand if kyut was to be rated, his best work is within the box and he can finihs well. I think we need someone in here.
