Mon 18 Jul 2011 Jamie Mackie is continuing to make good progress as he works hard to overcome a double leg break which ended his season in January. The R's forward suffered the injury during our FA Cup fixture at Blackburn, and Head Physio Nigel Cox has complimented the work ethic of the 25 year-old. "Jamie has been doing really well," Cox told www.qpr.co.uk. "He has worked very hard throughout the summer and has done everything he can to speed up the recovery process. "His own personal aim was to be fit for our first game of the season, although that was always going to be a very tight target. "When we previously saw the surgeon he was happy for Jamie to step up his rehab, which he has done recently with some outdoor running. "We visited the surgeon again last week for a check-up, and it appears the fracture site itself needs a little more time to heal, so we need to be careful. "It's a mother-nature thing more than anything else. There is nothing Jamie could have done which would have helped speed up this part of the process, it is simply a case of waiting for the bone to heal. "It means Jamie's target will have to be adjusted but the good thing is that he is a naturally fit lad and very strong." With Mackie still focused on making a return in the early part of the new campaign, Cox is now working on a revised plan which will continue to push him towards a full recovery. In a bid to get the former Plymouth man fit as quickly as possible, the decision has been taken for him to miss out on our upcoming pre-season tours to Cornwall and Italy. "Over the coming days we are going to back off completely with the outdoor running but we will continue to use water rehab, along with cycling and cross-training," Cox added. "We are also using a sophisticated treadmill which utilises compressed air to prevent the player putting 100 per-cent bodyweight on his legs when he is running, which is ideal for Jamie. "The facilities Jamie needs are all available at our training ground in Harlington or locally, which means it makes sense for him to remain here while the team travel to Cornwall and Italy next week. "The two tours we're going on incorporate a lot of games, which is contrary to what Jamie needs at this moment in time, so he will stay back and do some specific work which will be of greater benefit to him." Almost there, Jamie. Will be great to see you back. What is "cross-training"? Is it learning how to cross-dress? If it is I would ask for a second opinion before undertaking the course.
