- http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...rives-Carrington-Manchester-United-talks.html This is fantastic news if this is true, especially when we expected him to be at Real Madrid by now.
Will he? Real have said they'll never do business with us ever, ever, ever again. They'd have to give us Bale if they want him! Great news if he signs, so long as he remains commited fully and earns his crust.
I can see this happening and it's what he should have done last summer with a release clause in his contract simply to protect United's resale potential. My prediction is a four year contract. Giddy up.
This could be the greatest comeback since Lazarus. People will talk about this for decades. It will be like a new signing... literally! (that last bit is for @Bodanki )
Adam Crafton @AdamCrafton_ 7m7 minutes ago Cambridge, England Nothing is done. But, for first time in a long time, David De Gea seriously considering signing a new contract at Manchester United. #mufc he's got pretty close links with De Gea's camp, this would be great news. Marca: David De Gea will sign a five-year contract at #mufc within 72 hours. Simon Stone @sistoney67 6m6 minutes ago Dunno if he will sign or how long he will stay but talking to Utd afterwindow closed, got sense relationship between LVG + DDG would be healed Sky Sports News HQ @SkySportsNewsHQ 23m23 minutes ago BREAKING: Sky Sources: Manchester United re-open contract talks with David de Gea. #SSNHQ David Anderson @MirrorAnderson 9m9 minutes ago De Gea's change of heart is down to collapse of Real move. He and his agent Jorge Mendes blame Real. Episode has convinced him to shun them.
Atleast if we can get him signed up to a new contract then if Madrid are still after him next summer then they can pay his true worth, which to us is probably 60 million+ 60 million may seem ridiculous for a goalkeeper, but when you think of some of the huge fees other players are going for, and how many man of the match performances he's had the last 2 years, he is vital to us and worth just as much as any top attacking player. The only other keeper in his class is Neuer, and there's no chance of him coming to replace De Gea, so De Gea is essentially irreplaceable to us. So if we can get him signed up, Madrid are gonna have to really dig deep to prize him away
More importantly Madrid want him. That alone is worth the fee you've said. A player is worth what someone is prepared to pay for him and that's what it comes down to with Real.
If de gea is blaming Madrid then is his more a formality now? Of course we don't know either way but I don't think a transfer to Madrid is quite as certain as it was just a short time ago.
If true and if happens great news. Literally a new signing. But to be honest, DG has never been a huge preoccupation for me. The defence and DM have become good. He has played great for 2 years but the problem for united has been at the front recently. We simple have to have a better scoring record.
He has to be a preoccupation right now because the back up options are frighteningly poor/inexperienced. Put it this way, Romero plays tomorrow and we start with a one goal handicap.
We need to have a decent defence sure. But having 0-0 can only get you so far. You have to score at the other end and we are still wating for it to click. But no doubt this is great news if it happens. It will focus the manager and player minds
This is simple really, del Bosque has told him that if he isn't playing regular first team football between now and the Euros he won't be selected for the Spanish national squad...................LVG has told him that if he wants to play said footie, then he has to sign a mega long contract to give the club added worth when he does eventually leave for RM. Well done del Bosque !!
That's the vital detail, if true. I assumed Mendes would still look to push the deal through next summer on a free, for a massive agent fee, so no chance of De Gea signing a new contract. But if Mendes blames Real for the deal breaking down then that will change things and could see him staying for the long term. Could also have implications for Real's dealings in the future, given how vital Mendes has been to their transfers in the recent past.
Basically Real got too greedy. They not only wanted to get De Gea but also get him for a pittance or for free next year. In fact DG has nothing to lose by signing a long term contract with a release clause of £30m or so. He will get his wish to play for Madrid and to play for Spain as No 1. Not often I say this but in this instance I have to credit LVG. He is already signalled he is prepared to be tough and even to write off a huge amount of money. That DG may not play if he doesn't sign. Win-win for both if he signs.
