I'm staying out of this but it is a remarkable achievement. This country has gone through incredible change during her reign and she has been the one constant.....and this is from someone who leans towards republicanism. Can see arguments for and against to be honest.

I suppose you can make a, pretty weak argument for the King/Queen. As for the rest, they should all be eliminated from the civil list, or just eliminated, and made to go out and work for a living. Why do the royals need so many places to, supposedly, live. With so many people homeless, waiting on housing lists etc, these places could all be turned into flats, bedsits, maisonettes etc.
She is our queen and should be proud of her, she has ruled this country without scandal , she is admired all over the free world and has one of the hardest job in the world which she has done without complaint and is keen now at 89 years young as she was when she was crowned...There is a case for hangers on to look at but the immediate family should not be counted in that....
She`s been a good tourist attraction and an icon around the world and is the richest woman on the planet ! not a bad return for easy work & life compared to almost all that live in the real world here ! And that shower of a family have leached from the public purse and wealth their predecessors gained from the ordinary peoples blood & sweat for a very long time . She aint my queen ! if she chipped in a bit of loose change to help us through this so called austerity and to help ease the poor and olds lot that have worshiped her all her years up there and even commented publicly what she thinks of our and her ? country being changed into a 3rd world hole that its becoming then she might get a few browny points but dont hold your breath they are in their ivory tower where they dont feel anything ! Since 2003 The nationless Republican Army has continue to roam and slaughter anyone or anything who denies or defies their version of Islam. I'm more a republican than anything else but what on earth ISIS has to do with the Queen is completely beyond me and saying that the invasion was in her name because our soldiers bear her sigil is making a tenuous link laughable. I'd like to point out she doesn't rule the country parliament does thanks to Oliver Cromwell. The sitting monarch is merely a figurehead.
She can advise and veto, she is the only one that can approve the prime minister. She has to be informed every day what business is going on in parliament, If things are going bad she will give the prime minister a right bollocking and if she wanted could even force the prime minister to stand down....People still say that she forced thatcher out but we will never know being just peasants It is Her government and they must obey and stay loyal to her.....
If you think she has any real power you are living in cloud cuckoo land. Every thing she does is showtime. Troopimg of the colour, State opening of parliament, receiving the outgoing and incoming Prime Ministers, giving out awards, State visits. I am not saying these are not some use but real power no way. As for handing out bollockings I suspect Queen Victoria was the last monarch any Prime Minister took any notice of. Times have changed since the 19th century.
