Source? Edit: Don't bother, I've found it: http://www.squawka.com/news/man-utd...eague-chances-for-youth-team-graduates/456591 Includes Pogba, who you famously tapped up when he was 16 and Januzaj, who you signed from Anderlecht when he was 16. I assume that the rest of the players followed this familiar theme and a better title might be: Top Team Who Tap Up Youngsters For Lots Of Money When They're 16.
You're actually right, Stan. I checked the source material from ESPN: http://www.espnfc.com/blog/espn-fc-...emier-league-youth-graduates-chances-slipping It points out that Man Utd's youth players rarely get any sustained opportunities and are thrown in for a couple of appearances, then disappear. The hit-and-hope team choices of Van Gaal and Moyes are criticised, while also credited for these high numbers. It goes on to hail Villa and Spurs as successes in this area. Interesting contrast to Squawka's rather paltry effort, I'm sure you'll agree. Not sure how accurate it all is though, given the high number attributed to Watford. Seems a little unlikely.
A couple of appearances seems an exaggeration. Last season Blackett made 11 appearances. Now on loan at Celtic I suspect he'll be back as he looked like a good prospect. McNair made 16 appearances last season. It is difficult for kids to come through the ranks and become established at teams who reside at the upper end of the table. We've had a few over the years, more than our rivals I suspect. It's easier at a club like Spurs where expectations are lower. For example this season it looks like Spurs are aiming to finish just above the relegation places and it will be up to youth product Harry "The Gooner" Kane to score the goals to keep Spurs in the PL.
The Blackett and McNair project was abandoned after it became apparent that it was an utter failure. Neither can get a game for their clubs now. It's quite funny that you can't decide whether it's easier or harder to get a game at Utd, though. Have you had more youth prospects than your rivals or less?
Top windmilling, there, from Stan, before he was completely and utterly "owned!" Such a shame. I used to respect Stan, albeit, briefly.
So basically what you're saying is that once a youth player makes his debut he is deemed an utter failure if he fails to retain his place for the rest of his career. When Poch is sacked you should apply for the Spurs manager job. You'd be in with a good shout.
You seem on edge. As it goes I think you'll be ok. Harry "The Gooner" Kane will score enough goals to keep you in the PL. If he doesn't then I'm sure your youth team is bursting with players who can step up. Or maybe Lamela or Adebayor will take a break from counting their money to play a game. Believe.
Believe PNP. Believe. That first win is just around the corner and it will be the array of established youth team players who will win it for you. All of them following in the footsteps of the likes of Lineker, Gazza, Waddle, Sheringham, Anderton.
I'm sorry, but you seem to be under the impression that I created an article hailing my club's youngsters. I've no idea why, as it's clearly one of your own. He's one of your own. HRH. He's one of your own.
You pointed to an article that you seem to think suggests Spurs have some kind of an academy. Classic Spud delusion. Decades of it!
No, I pointed out that the source material for the OP's article did a more thorough job and was less misleading than the simple stat being quoted. I've no idea why that upset you so much.
Nice tiff fellas, good fishing from custard. That Blackett lad is good I was impressed by him last season. There was a scattergun approach which has made those figures a little disjointed though.
How the fck City or the Chavs managed 6 seems to have been missed. I take it the tying up of their youth into hessian sacks and being dumped in Arnhem counts as youth product debuts!
