Why do the teams seem to drop their drivers in it? So, if Hamilton and Vettel get disqualified, Rosberg is in the same position as before the race but he's got rid of an old engine. A DNF, say in Singapore for Hamilton could put Rosberg back into contention.

To be fair, the only thing that'll make this championship interesting to neutrals is if Hamilton gets disqualified, so that will be what happens.

Merc getting Ham to open up more of a gap at the end in anticipation of a time penalty?

What I don't like (and this happens a lot in Motorsport) is that they knew of the alleged infringment prior to the race start. Why didn't they instruct (for the alleged safety reasons) them to pit and amend immediately?

I remember Ferrari starting a wet race on the inters against the race instructive of full wets and were forced to change tyres immediately if I recall correctly?

Clearly that was the reason, but time penalties are for sporting infringements and not technical.

Pat Symonds & Rob Smedley (Williams) demand a DSQ for Merc.

Red Bull got a time penalty in Monaco once for a floor infringement, but otherwise it's cut and shut DSQ.

Still holding out for Singapore penalties for the both of them to make it interesting. Never going to happen but I can hope!

Yeah. How long can it possibly take to put 0.3psi into a tyre?

There's a lot of contradicting points here.

Tyre pressure not a Sporting Regulation or Technical Regulation. It's a Technical Directive from Pirelli to the FIA. Which it itself is utterly confusing.
The FIA knew from the start and didn't black flag the Mercedes or demand a tyre change. Potentially pointing to sporting issue that can be contested.

I can't see why it would be done on purpose by such varying amounts. It's a mess that I really hope will have a definitive answer. If they get DSQ, which I can accept, why were they allowed to even race with this known from the start? That would be another mess up from the FIA in my eyes, you can't have the winner not winning from a issue known about from before the race, it's not fair on the fans.

I think the technical directive forms part of the rule which states that the tyre manufacture set the limits. My understanding is this can and does vary from race to race.

Merc should have used mismatched tyre sets. Then they'd be safe from DSQ, wouldn't they, Pat Symonds?<laugh>
