Don't mind real refugees, but not convinced most are not economic refugees. And most are young males....fine if they subscribe to our values, but too many have no intention of becoming truly British. Refugees in the past have melded into society, but for the first time, we are getting people who come here and expect us to change....for the first time I can hear myself say go back where you've come from if it is so great.....something that as a child of the sixties I would never have said as we welcomed West Indians and Kenyan Asians. When I studied civics at school I was told that the first responsibility of any government is to protect your borders....fifty years later, I can see how true that was.
Well i dont read the Daily anything but i wont be putting any 'welcome to refugees' signs up. We are almost submerged in them as it is and our relatively small island can only absorb so many. I echo totally what Fran has written above.
Seems a bit rich for western governments to be complaining about refugees when the west did a collective **** all in Syria and Iraq while those twats ISIL go around beheading and crucifying everything, acting like the bunch of animals they are. Wtf do you expect civilians to do?
Not all migrants are fleeing persecution....the problem is that true refugees are hidden amongst people no country in their right mind would want.
How far back do you want to go ? Iraq could be said to have started all this , then the USA & UK etc did not help with the WOMD that never were ..............
That's a 'hard ask' for anyone to answer - a lot of circumstances has attributed to the whole scenario, not forgetting the West backed SH to attack Iran years before. You can go back there and beyond if you wanted... faceless grey suits in various governments and all manner of conspiracy theories.
I agree . My point is though that although the likes of Hussain , Gadaffi ( sp ) etc kept a tight hold on things , it WAS under control . Did we care back then ? do we only care now because it threatens US directly ?
Same could be said of Tito and Yugoslavia. I do love history and having immersed myself in it all my life, it is regrettably it repeats itself time and again and The World never seems to learn. I do not support dictatorships (benevolent or otherwise) so please do not think I advocate it. Just a comment.
NO NO No ! I don't think that for one second , Honestly . It's just they have things under control , and without modern media etc . If Libya had invaded Kuwait & Kuwait was the worlds largest producer of Carrots , would we have gone to war ? Bugs Bunny might have . But there you go . I have often said that if a Martian visited this planet and saw what Mankind had done to this planet & itself , it would have us wiped out in an instant . Would he ( or she or it ) be wrong ?
I did not think that you were implying it of me - sometimes on here (and understandably) people read comments 'literally'. Hence my qualification
Tottenham - Did you know they have recently poached our main scout in France? Liverpool - Deluded Brendan, need I say more? Portsmouth - Yuk!
Yes, I like the way you put it Fran. In reality, it's almost certainly the other way around, in that hidden amongst the true refugees are people no country in their right mind would want.
Well, let's hope he carries on discovering a lack of French talent for his new masters, though my point wasn't about his attributes or otherwise, it was the fact that Tottenham have the biggest telescope ever trained on St Mary's every step.......
We should be flattered that the "North London Giants" recognise Saints as a better organisation, and its nice to see them floundering a bit despite all their attempts to take what they think is important from the Saints set-up, like Paul Mitchell and Poch. I know what you mean though sa1nts, we are certainly under scrutiny by some of the big boys which I guess is a consequence of The Southampton Way actually working
I note that Spurs are continuing to not mention our players...they are not mentioning McQueen at the moment.
Spuds might have to go top of my list again, this article rubbed me right up the wrong way: http://tottenhamhotspur.blogspot.co.uk/2015/09/we-are-struggling-to-attract-players.html "We not only develop, but we give a chance to youth in a way no other top club does in the Premier League." Grrrrr
