Could be worse than a fellow player having never heard of you. This is what the Napoli coach said of new signing Chalobah:

Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri said on Monday: "I don't know anything about the player. If the club picked him then he must have some quality. I train whoever the club puts at my disposal." From the BBC website!

I haven't written off Clucas at all, I said he looked out of his depth in the first few games, but it was far too early to tell. He was much better in the last game and I commended him in the MotM thread, I've never started criticising a player before he's kicked a ball for us.

I know what I said dipshit, it was a review of one of his performances, you'd do well to wait for one and comment on that.

Bit of ganging up on Sydney here I reckon. He maybe is being a bit negative. But I would say he's just erring on the side of caution given our track record for signing unknown quantities from foreign leagues.
Personally it's an underwhelming signing for me, but on the upside hopefully his most current form is a sign of things to come as he's still young (25?), and hopefully he will make the grade. I would have preferred a proven goal scorer from this division but we obviously don't have (or want to spend) the cash that that would cost.

Any signing is a gamble, especially signing someone who has never played in England before.

When we scouted Diomande, we would have looked at his goals to game ratio, shots on target, etc etc.. thats purely stats. Id then like to think we sent scouts to watch him, making notes of his work rate, movement off the ball, style of play, strength and so on..

Lets forget what league he's played in so far in his career. A striker mainly scores goals when they are put on a plate, crosses, through balls, rebounds etc.. but most importantly the player has to be in the right place at the right time. Only very good strikers can create goals out of nothing.

From watching his highlights on youtube (yes we know...) the first thing I thought was he reminds me of a certain Andre Gray. Both a similar height, build, style.. Both strong, quick, good feet. Similar types of goals scored too.

It looks like not only will this guy put away a good amount of chances, but he'll work hard and create opportunities for himself to score goals.

Forget his price tag or him being fairly unknown, he might just score the goals this season that see us promoted.

    No need to be abusive.

Thank you, not sure what I've said that warrants the abuse I've gotten. From a mod no less.

I'm not saying he's going to be ****, or that he's a terrible signing. I'm actually quite keen to see how he goes. I just don't think that his stats show that he's done anything that impressive so far in his career. He's a gamble, and one that I really hope pays off.

Sometimes gambles can pay off immensely (e.g. Michu to Swansea for £2M) or backfire ridiculously (a certain Mr. Proschwitz).

At under £2M, I'm happy to take a gamble on the guy.

Yep! Like I said earlier, at 1.7m it's a calculated gamble. If it pays off - brilliant - if not, it's not much money lost.

Surprised no one had look at Diomande from Stabaek earlier than Hull, scored a lot of goals this season would've been cheap in today's market.

To be fair, isn't it true that Roo has only done that after the striker has had what he considers to be a reasonable opportunity to score?

Could be. From memory he was pretty negative on Sagbo from the get go but I could be wrong on that.

Yep he's spot on, at 1.7m is pretty cheap in today's market. I think Mochengladbach were linked - had a look back through old tweets about him this morning on the bus - not sure why they and another club I've forgotten the name of now didn't end up picking him up. Must be some reason I guess.

Hardly all that abusive, I just find your negativity over our new signings, before they've even kicked a ball for us, a little irritating.

He's a bit of a character this guy, was watching Napoli v Samp at the weekend and you could tell he was one of these managers who are a bit 'out there', think he used to be a bank manager or something till quite recently
