I'm with bornpompey here, playing a few youth and fringe players is fine, but an entire squad of youth players just seems like a waste, especially when you don't have to win many games to get to the final. Furthermore, playing one game is not going to suddenly make a huge difference for the players, half of whom will go out on loan anyway if they're good. Plus, in a squad of youth players, they don't get that experience of playing alongside experienced, older players that they would if it's a mixture, therefore it was essentially a glorified academy game but with tougher opposition (perhaps, I don't know what Exeter's line-up was like) Glad I didn't waste my money on a ticket.
Have to agree with Bornpompey that the selection appears to have taken the fixture too lightly. An extended cup run would have presented an opportunity to give squad members, no in the current L2 team, games. However, pleasing that the young players gave a good performance.
Give it a day or two. This competition is a chore, I'll bet if you asked 100 football fans at random, who had won this for the last 5 years, you wouldn't get many correct answers.
