According to HDM, Lenihan, Townsend, and Luer will be allowed to go out on loan with Clark and Dixon. So that's 5 of the team.
That's why it's frustrating "supporting" the U21 - you know that they could do better if they had all their players. I suppose it's like that for most clubs and player development is more important than winning but it's still good to see them winning.
I hear provided it's a football club at league 2 or higher, any of the existing under 21's are free to go out on loan if a club are prepared to take them and pay their wages
In the midst of all this transfer talk, I've just seen a tweet saying they played today & won 3-0, 2 goals from Ter Horst & 1 from Bowen. Anyone go, or know how we played?
It was a very strong starting 11 to be fair. Hull City pretty much took control of the game from the first whistle. Horst's first goal was superb. Overall a dominant performance. The team had real balance about it. Arguably one of the best assembled sides City have had at under 21 level for some years.
U21s Report: Barnsley 0 Hull City 3 Two goals from Johan Ter Horst and one from Jarrod Bowen helped the Under-21s to a 3-0 win against Barnsley on Tuesday afternoon. Tony Pennock's side dominated the opening 45 minutes and deservedly led 2-0 at the break thanks to a goal apiece for Ter Horst and Bowen, before the former added his second and the Tigers' third goal of the game after the break to secure a third successive win for the Under-21s and maintain their unbeaten start to the U21 Professional Development League 2 campaign. Pennock made four changes to the side that recorded a 3-1 win against Huddersfield Town eight days earlier. Brian Lenihan replaced Josh Clackstone at right back and Will Aimson came in for Harvey Rodgers in the centre of the City defence. Up front, Greg Luer and Ter Horst came into the side with Calaum Jahraldo-Martin and Taylor Tombides omitted. The first chance of the game came in the opening couple of minutes but Ter Horst’s header was off target from Matty Dixon’s cross, before the Tigers created a number of goalscoring opportunities. Luer lobbed a shot over Barnsley keeper Jack Walton but the ball bounced wide of the post, Bowen fired across the face of goal and Ter Horst volleyed over from a Dixon corner. Will Annan saw a diving header at the far post deflected wide as the Tigers continued to create chances and when Walton failed to collect the resulting corner Aimson fired wide of the post. Bowen then saw an effort come back off the woodwork and although City had created all the chances they were lucky not to go behind just after the half hour mark. Jack Cowgill met a George Maris free-kick but put his header over the bar when he should have hit the target. The hosts were made to pay for the miss when Ter Horst opened the scoring with a fine finish. Luer’s flick found Ter Horst, who ran at the Barnsley defence before hammering a right foot shot into the top corner from the edge of the box. Aimson had a great chance to double the lead but he headed over from a Dixon cross before Rory Watson made his first save of the game to deny Callum Chippendale. A much-deserved second goal for the Tigers came a couple of minutes before the break when Luer and Max Clark combined to find Bowen on the left and he cut in and fired a low shot past Walton. Barnsley started the second period better with much more purpose going forward and Watson had to be alert to turn a George Cater effort round the base of his post. Chippendale curled a free-kick just wide and Cater saw another shot deflected for a corner. City replied with Bowen meeting a Clark corner but his header was pushed round the post by Walton. The Tigers’ full-backs then combined with Brian Lenihan crossing and Conor Townsend sending a firm header over the bar. The third and final goal of the game came with 17 minutes remaining when Bowen and Townsend combined down the left and although Walton initially did well to keep the ball out of his net the rebound fell for Ter Horst to rifle a shot into the net. A great move involving Lenihan and Luer ended with Annan firing over before Watson comfortably held Matt Templeton’s low strike in what was the final action of the match.
