Hope not. The Croatian boy from Leicester on loan would be better, or even Michu. Fletcher has been gash for two and a half years. Maloney & Naismith outscore him for Scotland FFS
Fletcher would probably do a job but at what cost? Besides, we need a big target man, not another member of the Ant Hill mob.
Good to see us busy and actually looking at decent players!! Simunovic, Blackett will definitely improve our squad if VVD leaves or not. Even Fletcher could be a good signing, not been great for Sunderland the last few years but nobody has with so many changes in management. Think a few games with goals will get his confidence up and could be useful in Europe. If he's successful and Sunderland want him back I wonder what he'd do though?
Fletcher smacks of desperation and his signing would be about 6 years too late. The guy is on £70k a week at Sunderland. I wouldn't want us to subsidise one penny of that as he has shocking injury record and an even more shocking scoring record for the last 3 years. All the same issues with Michu admittedly although he's had at least one good season recently. If we're going to loan any striker from the EPL then get Andrej Kramaric from Leicester. Every big team in Europe was scouting him 12 months ago and definitely would shine in a Ronny Deila team.
He is on £40k a week, but agree he's not the guy who will guarantee us goals in Europe. Still think if we were to get him he would be useful and his scoring record has to be looked at in context of the awful team he is in and the fact they change manager atleast once a year who all have different ideas of how to play etc. I'd have him over Michu, the fact that not one club is interested in him is a sign of what kind of attitude the bloke has. He had a good 7 months of football where everything went for him then pretty much never turned up the last few months of first season, next season he had injuries but when he played he had no positional sense at all. A few injuries were added to stop it being known he was dropped and he said he would not play for them again and demanded a move. He moved to Napoli where he was ****ing awful and didn't even make bench for most of the season. He's your typical Sunday league striker who thinks he's the dogs bollocks who can play where he likes....exactly what we don't need, we neef a striker to be an outlet and hold ball up. I like the Leicester guy, seen him when he first played for them and he seemed to be a cracking player but unlike Kane he didn't get any of the luck!! Would like to get him here with a view to permanent in summer but will they loan out a £10m striker??
I.don't mind a player on loan playing up front with something to prove....but our defence must be permanent and settled
I think with a player like Fletcher, who we should have signed years ago anyway, that it's never good to sign them when they cannae get a game down South. I just can't see him staying fit for a whole season either. Never realised how bad a season he had at Napoli, I pay no attention to Italian fitba whatsoever as it's utterly pish. Worse than the SPFL to watch for me. Was just a rumour I read about that Kramaric coming on loan. He hasn't been anywhere near the starting line-up for them recently but he's definitely a talent.

What's the official line on simunovic?? Heard we are waiting work permit/visa? Assume medical and personal terms sorted?? BBC Scottish deadline day live update is ****ing awful!! No rumours, no updates apart from when a deal is complete!! Anymore news on a striker?
Cheers Dev, others don't seem so confident on Simunovic deal or think we will use hold up as an excuse not to get a striker. Love to see a decent striker come in but Griffiths has impressed me as lone striker and think he's more to offer. Not expecting anyone in but if we do get a loan striker hope they are made to earn a start rather then walk in as part of the loan deal
