Maybe as a last last resort. If we can get him for free and low wages then yes.

I reckon there's better out there though.

Sorry all, but I want a left BACK who can DEFEND. It's all well and good having some whippet that can lash up the wing but if he cannot get back, then he isn;t a left back!

Old fashioned I know, but give me someone who will stop right footed players or players on the right flank bombing down and causing mayhem. If we have a left back who never gets past the half way line but also stops their players getting past him, that's good enough for me

He is only good when he has a defensively able midfielder in front of him. Without Gutierrez, he would struggle massively. I can't imagine he would even be as good now as he was with us.

Ex-Newcastle defender Jose Enrique linked with Sunderland move from Liverpool

Sunderland have been linked with a loan move for former Newcastle United left-back Jose Enrique, who is heading for the Liverpool exit.

The Black Cats have already made one raid on Anfield this week after completing a £7.75million move for Fabio Borini, and they made an approach for another Liverpool player yesterday after enquiring about centre-half Tiago Ilori on loan.

Ilori rejected the chance to join Sunderland, but reports have indicated that the Black Cats are also interested in out-of-favour left-back Enrique.

Like Borini, Enrique has not been training with Liverpool’s first-team squad this summer and has no future at Anfield.

The 30-year-old had been expected to join West Brom, with reports earlier today that he was due to travel to the Hawthorns to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

But Sunderland have been in the market for a new left-back, with Patrick van Aanholt struggling in the opening few games of the campaign.

I think that PVA has been asked to do too much so far this season, getting up the pitch to provide pace in the attacking half. Now we seem to have added pace to our forward line and those players become match fit then he may be able to concentrate on defending from now on. For this reason I don't see a left back as our priority today. We do need a central defender with some serious pace (sadly Southampton have agreed a fee for Van Dijk) to play alongside Kaboul.

Sunderland entered the race for José Enrique after it appeared that the 29-year-old left back was headed to West Bromwich Albion. Now it looks like West Brom have backed away from a deal for Enrique for reasons not yet known.

A deal for what James Pearce described as "a nominal fee" in his Liverpool Echo report only needed a medical and personal terms to be successfully negotiated between Enrique's representatives and West Brom. It could be one of those two areas that contributed to a breakdown in a potential deal. There have been competing reports that a deal is close to completion, but it's part of the madness of deadline day where any little slither of news constitutes major developments. A player walked, a player talked, a player balked. All part of the game.

I'm glad, it would be like Dossana all over again. Old, passed it, legs shot.

PVA should be moved to midfield, WBA got Johnny evans who would have been perfect !. Let's be cheeky and go for Bale on loan for a laugh.

No he wouldn't he's dog ****, and now he's in a side that concedes the ball a lot, people will realise just how bad he is.

I'd have been furious had we signed him.
