For me, no sale of Vic this window. He is immense and I still want him in the team. We also need to show that slimey bastard Levy and his poisonous little manager that they can't bully us. I like Ron's tactic of hinting we will report their dodgy tactics. Make Vic stay. Get his head right or fine him. Get him playing when we need him and let's rock this league again and give the powers that be something else to moan about. I'd even go so far as to say, let's have a great season and then say this year we signed a load of foreign players because the England Manager kept scouting and tapping up our good English ones!
Going into fantasy land now (and why not - this whole story is a dead end, afterall), but if Spurs offered us a Wanyama-Eriksen exchange, I would be keen on us accepting.
I'd sell him if we were offered a ridiculous price. Although I agree that defensively he can be awesome, he has definitely suffered from the loss of Morgan. The main reason being that he is now trying to play a bit of football which isn't his strength. Last year he would simply win the ball and pass it on, usually 5 yards sideways or backwards (not always great, but effective). I reckon in Romeu, Classie, WP and occasionally Reed we have decent cover in that dm area. I hate the idea of players not wanting to play for us, I can't see 100% commitment in such cases. Morgan last year was the exception and not the rule.
I think we should be 'considering' a Spurs bid and leave it until right before the deadline to reject it.
~Yep, 100%. We can cause them quite a bit of trouble. They are struggling to shift players and pissing around with cheap offers, they are on the verge of a bad window. If we can add to that, I'm in.
I'd sell him. This was always bound to happen. Really we should have kept Cork and tried to sell Wanyama earlier. Cork was probably the perfect player for us. Didn't have the star quality for the bigger teams to want him , but a very good player. We made a big mistake selling him. Romeu, Clasie, Davis, Ward-Prowse and Reed are good options to have at DM and CM. We don't badly need to keep Wanyama, we desperately need to keep scoring goals. I think Romeu is a better player than Wanyama personally. Romeu is more dynamic and danger quickly. Romeu goes actively and aggressively looking to win the ball back, which I really like. Reed showed signs that he could be a top quality DM when he's had chances. And it's a shame he hasn't had more chances since. Davis can obvious do a job at DM, as can JWP in more of a playmaker role. Then there's Clasie to come back and the money for Wanyama if we sell. It wouldn't be a disaster at all.
The thing is we are dealing with Levy, notorious tight bast**d so getting a decent transfer is not in question He might offer a low cash offer and a menu of over paid, failed, unwanted players in part exchange but a "ridiculous cash offer would be out of the question. That's why Spurs try and cause maximum chaos when they want a player so that the existing team gets so fed up with the upheaval that they are prepared to sell cheap just to get them out of the camp.....is anyone surprised at Spurs tactics?
Think it would be very disingenuous to claim Victor is not needed, but as Ron alluded to yesterday. If he doesn't knuckle down this season then he jepodises his career. Yesterday should have been a wake up call that Vic is not an essential member of the team and against sides who will come to St Mary's for a point he could find himself sacrificed for better ball players. I was really hoping Vic was going to step up this season and take his game up a notch. At the moment I don't think any of the top sides would be that interested. Obviously still time, but his attitude dictates where he goes next summer as I doubt he will be offered a new contract
I am afraid that Victor is merely a puppet of his notorious agent who is only focused on the money he can make from his "client" and doesn't care who gets hurt in the process, including Victor, who doesn't seem the sharpest knife in the draw...bless him. I can see this rumbling on until January with no resolution and us then selling early in the transfer window to raise the cash for his replacement/ Agent is happy as he will get a massive signing on fee, Victor gets a few months off and a massive pay rise and Levy gets his man at a reduced fee...everyone is happy except Saints and their fans
Naturally I hope that this is all forgotten after the window closes and we can pin it on his dastardly agent. A good game at West Brom away would help all to be forgotten.
I agree with all your reasoning and agree we sold cork early and our dm options are good, especially Romeu. BUT believe the club need to remain tough here, 2 years left on contract and we don't want to sell. I just hope this turns into a Morgan situation rather than Kenwyn Jones.
Could raise some money by raffling the chance to pull the trigger. Reckon Les Reed would outbid us though.
I hope that once the window has shut, he will knuckle down and do a Morgan. I think that our more resolute approach to players can dated back to Puncheon. In the Liebherr era, the club has taken no nonsense from players. A contract is a contract. Clubs run as well as ours can afford to take a principled stand.
