Not really. Ferguson was brilliant at getting players playing brilliantly as a team, even when a lot of them weren't much good. Ergo he left your squad with a lot of pap. Wenger has a team full of very good players but is useless at getting them to do anything. If a competent and class manager comes in, then he has some class players to make use of. But yeah, if we get someone like LVG in then we could be screwed.
Now I wouldn't mind: De gea staying LVG is a stepping stone to where we want to be. He has achieved one of the main objectives. That is to make us less of a soft touch. He himself recognises that he won't be here for more than a few years. He doesn't expect his contract to be extended.
When were you a soft touch? In the one season you had with Moyes when he wasn't allowed to spend any money and was left with all the Fergie deadwood that LVG has gotten rid of to make a single bit of difference??
We were during Moyes period with us. I am not saying it is all his fault. But we were indeed a soft touch, when every team were coming to OT to break 50 year old record.
Smell like a panic buy but who cares if he is good enough? I understand that Wenger was tracking him and he was being valued by him at something like £15-18m.
But do you not think there are 100 managers who could have you where you today if you gave them a blank cheque like LVG has had? Seems like a good manager could have had you as a top 4 team on half the budget LVG has had and not just been a stopgap. He seems a wastefully expensive and not very good stopgap.
As stop gaps go, he is as good as any IMO. He has a proven track record. He is decisive and he knows his mind. Right or wrong. We didn't want a weak indecisive manager. I would be surprised if the United hierarchy are not scouting for an outstanding manager to take over in a few years time.
@sistoney67: Fee for Martial is £36m. Move accelerated after Monaco were knocked out of Champions League qualifiers last week. From BBC Sport @EPLStuff: Manchester United have formally agreed a £36m fee with Monaco for Anthony Martial. [bbc, times] @StuMathiesonMEN: £36m fee for Anthony Martial confirmed. On his way to M/C. LVG scouting him for a year. Monaco knocked out of CL brought it to head. #mufc Liam @OffsideLiam Latest: Adnan Januzaj is in Germany ahead of his proposed loan move to Borussia Dortmund. http://bit.ly/1PFMXvI
Easier said than done tbf. Hindsight is also a wonderful thing. I think most ppl (who obv werent bitter ABUs) thought LVG was a good choice a year ago...for that stopgap role. I think it was needed after Moyes. Btw had Moyes not lost the dressing room I'd agree with your earlier comment about him. That was his achilles imo.
Moyes lost the dressing room because our title winning players questioned his tactics constantly. And when he started praising City's and The RS teams, that was the last straw for these players. United had to make sure that the same thing was not repeated and to do that they had to employ someone with unimpeachable credentials. Someone who can look at a player in the eye and say" you are talking ****. You do what I say or else you are ****ing dumped"

We could have had him for 7m before he signed a contract extension 2 months ago. Ha ha Woodward you fcking fish.
Reading the French rags and l'Equipe, it seems that the £36m (€50m) is only the start. Monaco has refused all offers and didn't want to sell. A basic offer of €40m and €70m with bonuses was turned down. When United upped it to €50m, they accepted. With bonuses etc, it may go up to €80m (£57m)
